Who is Saban's replacement?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Lose them?

That's a bit hyperbolic, but he's never dealt with or been able to recruit guys like this. If someone doesn't do it for him there could be a big problem.

Let's see how things look in the next few days with the portal and recruiting, I sure hope things stay calm and he keeps them around.

We may lose some but we are not going to lose a lot. We have an incredible system in place and will still recruit at an extremely high rate.

Ok, but my whole point is Oats's hiring and whoever we hire as football coach couldn't be more different.

Regardless of the comparison, the main, overriding point of this hire is even if it was Sarkisian or Lanning, we'd be taking a big step down because it isn't just about X's and O's on the field, but running an entire football program to dang near perfection.

So, yes, it does matter who we hire, but to some degree, it doesn't because THERE WILL BE a significant drop off. Saban wasn't at the top of the mountain, he had become the top of the mountain, THE GREATEST football coach of all time.

Seattle radio- nothing final . reporting Washington has countered with a $9.5 million per contract. Washington is still fighting for their coach, but expect to lose the fight.

If DeBoer is officially announced as the hire, I can almost guarantee the reason Byrne specifically made it a point to say what he said at the beginning about "the rumors" is because DeBoer was THE guy he wanted all along. Just my opinion though.

Not only that, but according to Chris Low's article, Lanning, Sark and Novell only removed themselves from consideration once he emerged as the leading candidate, so I think we got the guy Byrne wanted.

He is currently Co-DC with Muschamp, so it wouldn't be a totally lateral move.

Don’t get me wrong I’d LOVE IT if he came to be DC. I just don’t see how it helps him professionally all that much

I will just take a wait and see approach on DeBoer. It's not Mike Shula, it doesn't superficially look like a bad hire, it's just not the best in my opinion.

We should know pretty soon if the notion that he can recruit just fine and there won't be issues managing the talent comes into play.

He needs to start recruiting guys on the team, he has to start recruiting guys that are committed, and he has to start recruiting guys that aren't on the team and aren't committed.

The results will become apparent pretty rapidly, but if the bleeding starts who knows when it stops.

Among the first things he will undoubtedly do when he steps off of the plane...

Yeah, I read that article as well and once I read that it told me or indicated to me that DeBoer was Byrne's guy all along.

I'd expect most on the offense to stay now, but that's just a guess. Defense I think depends on whomst he may hire as DC. If its TRob or Schuman, we may be absolutely fine.
