Who is Saban's replacement?

If DeBoer is officially announced as the hire, I can almost guarantee the reason Byrne specifically made it a point to say what he said at the beginning about "the rumors" is because DeBoer was THE guy he wanted all along. Just my opinion though.

excellent point!

Regardless of the comparison, the main, overriding point of this hire is even if it was Sarkisian or Lanning, we'd be taking a big step down because it isn't just about X's and O's on the field, but running an entire football program to dang near perfection.

So, yes, it does matter who we hire, but to some degree, it doesn't because THERE WILL BE a significant drop off. Saban wasn't at the top of the mountain, he had become the top of the mountain, THE GREATEST football coach of all time.
And again, you're completely missing my point. Let's just drop it.

I firmly believe that we got the guy that Nick and GB were looking for since the night Michigan took us down. With only two coaches engaged in games from that point on, Nick kept the secret by doing everything just as he would have if he were staying, allowing UA and DeBoer to reach an agreement in principle. If anyone truly believes that Nick made this decision this week and that he hadn't in fact told his boss well in advance isn't from the school that Nick (and me thanks to my near 69 years around this earth) grew up in. I have no doubt that Jimmy Sexton knew the end game but was masterful enough at his craft to stretch it out to get his other clients in high cotton before ultimately working the final leg, a contract for DeBoer. I shared with my cousin and friends after the loss that if Nick decided to walk away, this is the guy i thought they'd pursue. He was my second choice after Sark but didn't think Sark would leave Texas. Don't know if he'll be able to bring his OC but I think TR would be fine if he'll stay. Key hire as many have mentioned is to bring in a first rate DC and defensive staff and everyone should be a solid recruiter to make up for his deficiency. He and Nick will work hard to secure the hold on as many of our current players as they can but likely some defections. He also needs to make his next call on the plane over to the young WR that pulled back on his commitment to see if he can talk him back into the fold. His rep as an offensive guy who just developed a Heisman candidate should be a pretty good selling point for QB and receivers. I'm happy with this hire even if it doesn't turn out as well as hoped because there is no sure thing. Roll Tide and thanks Coach Saban for so many joyous games and years!

I will just take a wait and see approach on DeBoer. It's not Mike Shula, it doesn't superficially look like a bad hire, it's just not the best in my opinion.

We should know pretty soon if the notion that he can recruit just fine and there won't be issues managing the talent comes into play.

He needs to start recruiting guys on the team, he has to start recruiting guys that are committed, and he has to start recruiting guys that aren't on the team and aren't committed.

The results will become apparent pretty rapidly, but if the bleeding starts who knows when it stops.
Well, he aint even got started yet, so lets give the guy a chance

I think if it is Deboer we are getting an excellent coach. He has won everywhere he has been. He won't recruit as well as Saban but who does besides Kirby? when Coach Saban first got here he didn't inherit a team full of 4 and 5 star players. He went to the SEC championship game in his second year with mainly a team of coached up 3 stars sprinkled with some 4- and 5-star young players he recruited in his first 2 years. Then the 4 and 5 stars started rushing in because he was winning.
