I considered quoting a few of these comments but I don't want to single anyone out for this, but I do want to make a statement:
Some of you seriously are overreacting. Go lie down for an hour or two.
There is a difference between "suboptimal" and "disaster." A wide gulf of difference, for that matter. There is also some incorrect information being expressed in this thread and it seems to be throwing people off.
1. Grubb and DeBoer have not always been together. Grubb was at Fresno while DeBoer was at Indiana. You might want to look at how Grubb's offense performed when they weren't together, versus how they did when they were together (or how DeBoer did when he was on his own, by comparison).
2. We didn't hire DeBoer to get to Grubb, in any situation.
3. News broke of his hiring in Seattle with an hour to go before the transfer portal deadline, and probably wouldn't have broken then had he not gone out for a beer with a pair of Seahawks execs and been recognized. Given Byrne's comments about there being a backup plan in place already, do you think we might have known this was coming?
4. The loss of Huff hurts worse than Grubb, IMO, but it isn't unmanageable. The idea that there are only a handful of good OL coaches out there is farcical.
5. I expect the next OC to be either Sheridan or Shephard, or someone DeBoer has already worked with. Getting Missouri OC Kirby Moore wouldn't just be a small coup, it would pretty much be like nothing had ever happened with Grubb. That leaves us replacing just Huff, and while that will be a tough hire to get right, it's far from impossible.
Also, I realize that information like this only seems to seep out after someone leaves, but I was told today that one of the things that sold Saban on DeBoer was after interviewing Grubb. The implication there is that UW was doing a bunch of cool things ... and it might have been coming from someone other than the OC. Then refer to points 1 and 2, above.
