He worked 8 combined years for Bill Belichick and Nick Saban. He had Tom Brady and Bryce Young. Never won a National Championship or Super Bowl with either.

I’m a Bama fan first and foremost, which is precisely why I don’t want Milroe as the QB. My goal is to win championships, not Heismans.
If a coach doesn't win a super bowl or national championship that means they don't know much about football or that proves they're a terrible coach?

I’m certainly not defending BOB but pretty much 99% of coaches fit the criteria in that post…
There are coaches in the HOF that never won a championship at any level.
Again, not defending BoB or suggesting he's anywhere near a HOF coach, but the idea that he doesn't know what he's doing is just ridiculous.
Winning a championship sometimes entails more than the head coach. Two schools that knocked on the door in football, but never got there, are West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Beamer was definitely a good coach. If he had coached at Alabama the years he coached at Virginia Tech he would have won more than one championship. Alabama's basketball program is the second winning program in the SEC, but cannot get there for a natty. I am not sure that is on the head coach. Hard to get over that first hump.

I've really been reflecting on the Chris Low article. We had heard some of those things, but Low tied a lot of stuff together.
What he confirms is that CNS had been thinking about retirement longer than we thought (at least one year) even though in earlier interviews he kept saying "All I've ever known is being a part of a team" as if he wasn't even considering it, which now we know wasn't true. Not saying CNS lied...no not at all...but that he probably wished he could have still kept on coaching cause he love it, but things had gotten to the point he couldn't do it anymore with all the current crap going on in College Football. He'd always said he'd coach until he thought he couldn't without riding the program down.
Ironically, I think we all saw the program going down the last couple of years. It was happening slowly, but it was happening. The Bama Standard wasn't as sharp, precise and dominant.
So what does this have to do with JM? I think CNS probably went with JM early last year because there was so much other drama with NIL/portal and team dynamics that he could have possibly lost the team if he didn't go with the "team choice." CNS said the team chose Jalen.
Something tells me this would have never happened in 2013, but ten years later with an older CNS, a changing landscape with softer less motivated players, he went with the QB who wouldn't rock the boat.
The USF game? I think CNS probably had a moment when old school CNS wanted to make a point and we almost lost the game because of it. It was the next week that we heard CNS say "the team chose JM."
We should have seen it then, but the writing was on the wall.

I'm rooting for Jalen. I think he's a great kid and I hope he has tons of success.
Part of the problem last season was that he didn't really progress at all throughout the season at reading defenses. He wasn't even being allowed to make the RPO reads because he couldn't be relied upon to make the correct read.
When my 43-year-old, half-blind eyes sitting in the stands can read the defense faster than our starting QB - that's not a good thing...
I posted the picture of Jalen from practice and asked about his arm position.
I've been digging into this a little more and found a really good video.
Basically, according to this video, Jalen is way out of sequence on this throw, which is what I suspected. He's already opened his hips, which is technically good, but he's also already opened his shoulders (which should be closer to being closed). On top of this, the ball is way too far behind his head (which is a bad position even if everything else was in sync) so the only thing he can do from that position is muscle the ball out with his arm, which will lead to inaccuracy. I think this is why Jalen looks so laborious in his delivery. He's basically strong-arming the ball.

Many have observed that it was a slow trickle and not some flood in terms of the decline in the program and I think once Saban was able to reassert himself and the program as the top program in the SEC (at least in terms of winning the SEC and vanquishing UGA and Kirby in the short term) he had done enough to make walking away a real option.
I don't know if I agree with that take in regards to CNS reasserting himself, with all due respect.
Here's what I mean: I think we were held together by bubble gum and loose strings last year. Had it not been for CNS's influence we might have finished 8-4 or 7-5. We were very unpredictable (compare this to early CNS Bama teams that you could set your clock buy in terms of dependability). Last year we had two games outside of the opener where we looked really impressive. The first was against LSU, but I attribute that to their terrible defense and the fact we caught 'em off guard with the new Reese/Milroe offense. The other game was Georgia and I just think we had a good week of practice and execution and we played the best game of the year. It kinda reminds me of the old saying that "A clock that doesn't work is right two times a day."
FWIW, I think CNS was done this year whether we went 15-0, 12-2 or 8-4. I don't think he was coming back. It was a hard decision to retire, but after the Low article lays out all that went into the decision, it was time.
