I don’t really get excited about commitments anymore and especially this early but this would potentially be a really good pickup at QB.

He reminds me of Geno Smith at WVU that year he was throwing to Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin.

But I can also see flashes of Jayden Daniels on Runs and Penix’s throwing motion.

I can really see this kid slotting into our new offense.

Long way before anything materializes though and especially in this new NIL free agency world.

So we got ourselves a Geno Smith, Penix, Daniels combination in the fold. He's going to win the Heisman in his freshman year! 🤣🤣🤣

I didn't know whether to laugh, be mad, or scratch my head. I settled on scratching my head.

I wouldn't worry over it. CKD is a proven QB developer.

If Russel has a good senior year, his stock will rise significantly. And don't rule out the Bama bump to his exposure by just committing.

I get that some think recruiting will change under CKD, but those who are expecting Bama's recruiting to plummet are whistling past the graveyard IMO.

Scratching your head is the right reaction IMO. So the current #6 QB, #1 dual threat QB by ESPN and #38 player in the nation gets mocked by a corndog. The butt hurt and inferiority complex in Louisiana is massive. He thinks its just SMU w/o looking at the credentials of the player and for a guy making his living talking about college and pro sports it makes him look foolish.

The Elite 11 Finals being today in LA and Keelon will be one of 20 QB's at the event. With a good showing he has a chance at 5*.

"There might only be five quarterbacks who currently hold five-star status, but there are a handful more that are knocking on the door. The all-important senior seasons will play a large role in who ultimately slots where once the rankings finalize, but a strong showing in Los Angeles could push a few arms up the board."

"Alabama commit Keelon Russell has long had plenty of fans inside the 247Sports' Scouting Department. His 29-1 record as a starter is the best amongst all of the finalists. The same goes for his 69.6 career completion percentage, which is even more impressive when you factor in all the Texas-based defenses that he has faced. The No. 7-ranked quarterback was previously committed to SMU."

Russell finished 3rd at the elite 11. A Very good day for him.

Pretty good for the first day of competition. Was also interested in how Lacey from Mobile area would do. I see he finished lower than Russell. Looks like we got the better of the two.

Maybe. I like Russell and I believe he will do big things in Deboer’s offense. However, we have had Elite 11 champions on the roster, under Coach Saban, who did not pan out. Elite 11 is a good litmus for talent and potential, but not necessarily how a young man will perform when the lights are on.
