A few years ago I came up with the idea for a bucket list item to go watch Bama play all of their SEC opponents in their home stadiums. IMO, this is quite ambitious, especially for a working man. Regardless, I have gotten started but have only gotten to go to two opponent's stadiums, Vandy and the Gators.

Have any of you tried to do this? How many of accomplished it?
What advice would you give if you have done this to someone who is just starting out trying it?

Now that we are up to 15 opponents it will get tougher to accomplish. There will be some we rarely visit depending on the rotation.

My advice would be to jump on a road game if you know it is a place that won’t be on our regular schedule. You know we will be in Knoxville and Auburn every other year. You don’t want to wait ten years for the Norman trip to roll back around.

That is basically how I have looked at it. I know we will go to the Mississippi schools, LSU, Barn, 10Rsea, etc so I haven't really pushed to go there. I also have to work around my job as I do travel usually for about a month every fall.

SEC sites members of my crew have been to, several of them multiple times:

Arkansas
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Miss. State
Ole Miss
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

Only Mizzou and A&M had eluded us until today's addition of OU and UTw. All four of these are, in my opinion, difficult to do because of distance. If I were to try to go to any of them now, I'd do the gameday charter (if offered) out of Birmingham. We've done this a few times: drive to B'ham, fly to the game city, bus to the stadium, watch the game, back on the bus to the airport and on to B'ham, a one-hour drive home. This beats a bone-wearying drive out there and back (like Arkansas was). Good luck!

No bucket list is complete without an Orange Ball Cap with a big Crimson Alabama 'A' on the front...
I’m holding out for the Alabama “Crimson Tradition Urban Sombrero” which “combines the spirit of old world Mexico with the panache of Title Town USA Tuscaloosa”. Available in sizes 6 1/4 to 8 1/2 in the Fall via J. Peterman ….

I haven't tried to visit all SEC stadiums, but I've made it to Vandy, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

You may as well at this point. You only need Texas, aTm, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and UGA.

I tried but I’m kinda bowing out of it because I’m getting tired of traveling and dealing with fans. So after Wisconsin I’m probably done.

The ones I haven’t been to (including Texas and Oklahoma):

Georgia- Will never go. I dealt with enough of them in both National Championships to never want to go to a place in which there are about 100k in my vicinity.

Vandy- I might go but it’s probably depending how work is going

Arkansas- Something always comes up when I want to go but I’m always reminded traffic in Fayetteville is insane.

Oklahoma- I might go sometime, but not this year and I sure as hell won’t drive. But I’ll say this… weather is horrible in both September and November.

My best places

-ATM
-Kentucky
- Mizzou
-LSU

Worst places

- Texas
- Florida
- Ole Miss
- Auburn

Meh Places

-MSU
- USCe
- Tennessee

Vandy was a great experience with the exception of having to sit on hard concrete benches with no backrest. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and even the Vandy fans were great for me. When I went to Florida I was expecting to experience a LOT of hazing from their fans. There was some but when those fans saw that I was going to laugh along with them rather than get upset, they seemed to be more relaxed with me. I would definitely go back given the chance.

The two that I want to go to but am somewhat dreading are, LSU and10rsea. While I will pull for LSU against most opponents, I have heard too many horror stories about how bad their fans can be and that includes when they are the ones traveling...

I had a bad experience in Florida. But being by the students you kinda get during a close game in a hot rainy day. I just never liked their stadium. It was very old timey in comparison to others you will encounter if you keep going to new stadiums.

lsu at night… nothing like it.

At Florida, I was on the other corner of the same endzone as the student section so those kids weren't a bother to me. I could see there was some "action" going on between them and the Bama fans who were seated next to them though. All-in-all though, the fans around me were a lot of fun. You are right though, the stadium does seem to feel much older.

No thanks. I have no desire to attend another college football game.

I've been to Georgia and Missouri, forgot about both of them.

Resident Aggie here...

I think this thread is about the bucket list for getting around SEC stadiums and road trips.

I agree with the sentiment someone mentioned above on visiting OU. If you can, I very much recommend the trip!

We don't have a rivalry with OU, so mine is a balanced recommendation here for you coming from experience. I generally judge road trips on: a) whether the opponent has some unique things they do during the game (songs, bands, etc.), b) fan culture / hospitality (at least not be complete jerks), c) gameday campus environment (tailgating, pregame activities), and d) nearby entertainment scene (bars, restaurants, etc.).

Sometimes I go if it's simply an out of conference game that may not come around a lot (e.g., went to Miami last year, though I already knew it would be at the low end or fail much of my criteria).

I'd rate OU pretty high. While they play Boomer Sooner way too much, similar to how Tennessee wears out Rocky Top, it is one of the most recognizable college football tunes and you appreciate hearing it if you are simply a college football fan. Their fans were generally good when visiting us in College Station, and I found them hospitable when we visited Norman. I think it was 2000, when we played a tough game against them in Kyle Field. The #1 Sooners had to rally late to beat us 35-31 in a wildly entertaining game. Though we were disappointed, I recall their fans being complementary of the environment, their experience, and humble walking out, seemingly more excited about seeing an epic game than bent on rubbing it in.

I don't recall their tailgating scene in Norman, so either it isn't as extensive as we tend to have in College Station, or we simply didn't go to the right places, but I imagine it was good based on fan support and behavior. We wanted to go to their entertainment district, which was just across the street from campus, and it was fun for sure - totally felt like a college gameday. Liked it much better than the Austin experience, since Austin is urban, and college football gameday at tailgates in parking garages and such doesn't seem right. I prefer the "college town" gameday experience over urban, OU's is definitely "college town." OU's campus is pretty, they did a good job at making the red brick buildings seem uniform in style.

FWIW - One of the most overrated road trips ever was to Notre Dame. Mainly the awful fan experience walking around campus before the game and in the stadium, and "traditions" wore off quick when you realize what they think of as "traditions" are really just references to "history." It was, however, really cool that their band played the Aggie War Hymn before the game started to welcome us - too bad their fans sitting around us didn't take a queue. I don't plan to go when the Aggies play there again in 2025.
