Alabama QBs in 2024, II

Simplify? Jalen is a smart guy. CKD will tailor plays to his strengths, just as he would with any quarterback. Mainly using his run abilities, along with his passing.

Tommy Rees had to simplify things last year which is why around the LSU game he finally started calling QB runs.

It doesn't have anything to do with IQ.

It's about lessening available options per play so that decisions can be made faster.

I'll never forget this image which visibly shows his frustration....

Tommy just tailored plays to his strengths. You talk as if Jalen is a idiot. He's not. Tell me, what play did Tommy simplify? Explain it to me.

You know I would love to but I know it will be pointless and I would waste like 2-3 hours of my Sat afternoon doing it.

I could write up an Offensive dissertation with pictures showing all of our sets and motions and formations and audibles and explain everything to the most finite detail and it won't matter because you make excuses and rationalize away everything anyone tries to tell you that is remotely critical of anything that would be categorized as a fault that Jalen has and needs to improve on.

We all like Jalen and want him to improve.

I don't think he's an idiot and I said none of this has to do with IQ.

Your comment here almost comes off as hostile and I really don't feel like getting into a sparring bout with you since it's against TF rules.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree that a player can't have faults that need to be improved on.

Rocket scientists and brain surgeons are really smart but 99.9% of them could NOT play QB at a high level.

It's not about his I.Q. If he struggles to process an offense it's no reflection on his intelligence. He graduated in 3 years and is currently working on his Masters.

1) he stopped giving Jalen the option on zone read plays because he often made the wrong read, so he told Jalen “this is a keep” or “this is a give” on this play

2) flood routes. He overloaded one side of the field to minimize Jalen’s reads

All of this was talked about by the broadcast team during the 2nd half of the season. It’s not a secret.

It’s amazing that someone didn’t understand what “simplify the offense” meant. It’s not calling Milroe dumb it’s saying that the offense needs to be dialed back to play more to his strengths as a quarterback. Even Arians had to simplify his offense for Tom Brady in 2020 because he didn’t fully grasp its complexities. Does that make Brady a stupid quarterback or does that mean both parties accepted that winning a SB is more possible if they worked closer to what Brady was comfortable with?

DeBoer’s offense is one of the most complex systems in college football and it’s very wide receiver driven. So it could take time for Milroe to get comfortable with how different and complex it is. They may have to make a midseason adjustment again to find formations and plays that are easier for Milroe to run

This has been covered ad nauseam.

People refuse to accept this is what happen but instead the JM apologists respond claiming we are calling him stupid.

It sure wasn't a secret to Michigan what Jalen's limitations were.

I would say the same about any occupation but using those examples would probably make it 100% ;).

Or Austin Mack could overtake Ty Simpson for #2 quarterback position. And that might actually happen.
Did you watch the spring game? Based on that TS is more likely to take over JM as #1 than AM is to take over TS at #2.

FWIW, I do think AM's ceiling is very high, but last spring he was very raw. This year he's the age of most true freshmen so he's got time to grow and mature.

My question was about Seth’s adjustments at the line, not Rees adjusting calls for Milroe.
Ah, thought you had missed the earlier post about CTR making adjustments for JM.

I'm not crystal clear about how that applied to Seth. I remember discussions about him having to take on some of the calls a QB would normally make for the OL, but I'm not sure what that entails.
