I remember when I was growing up in Selma, he was one of the players that everyone was trying to get. Bama and Auburn were both trying to get him and Sam Dejarnette from Selma. Linnie went to Walker HS. Auburn ended up getting Sam from Selma and Bama got Linnie. RIP Linnie.

Is this the same Sam Dejarnette that played at USM in the early 80's? Running back?

Bobby Allison drove my mom home from church one night. As one might expect he drove at high speeds, by her account >100 mph. She made him slow down vs letting her out to walk. The way I understand it she turned down an invitation to spend more time with him. Her first son still had a similar name although BA was not the father (it was years later). I have no idea if that was pure coincidence since my dad also had a similar name. We were still fans of the Allisons growing up. RIP.

Wasn't into.....nor knew a thing about stock car racing.....until we re-located to Florida in January 1970. My new step-dad had an extended family here with many fans of stock car racing, so along with a mob of new nephews and nieces....I attended some of the races at Daytona for those first few years after moving here. Bobby Allison was a fav. of mine. He just seemed like a good person and of course a hard charging driver. Godspeed to a legend!

When I was in high school and several years afterwards the Birmingham Gang- Bobby, his brother Donnie and Red Farmer drove up to Huntsville's high banked oval on Thursday night. We would soon see them on the the NASCAR tracks. You may be aware that Bobby's son Davey Allison was a very successful driver and a favorite in NASCAR. He was killed in a freak helicopter crash at Talledega. It was awful day for many racing fans when he died. Bobby suffered a severe brain injury in a crash that ended his career. Truthfully it required a lot of good fortune for him to live to old age. It was absolutely the golden age of stock car racing.

Amazing Drummer. Amazing career. RIP

He began playing around the Boston area as a teen in 1942, and in 1945 moved to New York to play with bandleader Luis Russell. This kicked off a series of stints with jazz greats, including the legendary Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, and many others. Nominated for Eight Grammys.

He took the final spin.

Also host of "The Love Connection".

Had a routine back in the 90's to watch the show while riding my Trek road bike on an indoor roller. I was single and in my 30's back then, so really enjoyed the theme of the show!

Thank you, Chuck....Godspeed..... 🙏
