Is there a scenario where we still back into the playoffs?

We lost to 6 win vandy and 6 win oklahoma. Would be only 3 L team in the playoffs

We're not safe
You’re only looking at the downside. Also no one beat more ranked teams than Alabama’s 3 and Alabama had the best win in the country over the new #2 team in the nation. SMU lost to both ranked (toward the bottom of the Top 25) teams they played. Using SMU’s logic, Army lost 1 game and have a better case to make over 2 loss SMU than SMU has over Alabama.

This is what I want. If CFB has to change then I want the B1G and SEC to combine and create their own league, with its own rules, its own commissioner with divisions and a playoff that is all decided on the field.

You will never have a completely fair system in a league with 130 teams because you can never have enough common opponents to settle it on the field.
In numerous conversations with friends, I have come to the conclusion that, for all their failures, Americans try to be extremely fair. That manifests itself with a reluctance to pass judgment on people. It is really difficult for today's American society to say, "This one is worthy, but that one is not." Thus, we tend to say, "Everyone is worthy."
Then you overlay that with sports, which are designed to indicate "This one is superior to that one" (through the score of the game), and you have a clash of cultures.
Not every team is equally skilled and talented. Not every conference is equal.
We try to accommodate the silly idea that the American Athletic Conference is the same as the SEC, and it is simply not.

Go back and listen to what the committee chairman said last week. Their job is to rank the 25 best teams in order NOT to seed the tournament. Once they rank the teams, the tournament is seeded by the playoff rules. If they do their jobs and follow the same logic they used to rank us ahead of Miami we will be in. The only way we would logically be out would be if they do not rank Clemson above SMU, leaving us at 11 and we get bumped twice by lower ranked conference champions moving into the bracket. The logic they use to push a 3-loss Clemson over SMU should in turn push SMU below us in their ranking.

Agreed! What the hell are we doing with a playoff game? Gots a lot of questions that I’m afraid to find out the answer to you know! But no one cares so RTR!

my guess at how they will be ranked.
Boise State will displace Notre Dame & ASU will displace Texas in the seeds pushing us to 11 & Texas to 6.

LANK on the surface is a stupid travel ball softball slogan that most people become embarrassed to be associated with after they get back to their high school teams. Good on Milroe to make it work for him financially but like @B1GTide said last year once it became obvious that it was a clique thing more than a team motivation thing… it needs to die before it gets too out of hand.
Well this aged well

It's hard to say how they might rank Texas, tOSU, and PSU

Texas lost to the same team twice in UGA who will be ranked 2nd or 3rd

tOSU lost by 1 to the #1 team but also by 3 at home to UR 7-5 Mich

PSU lost to both Oregon and tOSU by 1 score

I think they will absolutely manipulate the rankings and seedings to create certain matchups though.

If they keep Bama in at 10 or 11 or 12 they will place PSU or tOSU or ND in such a way that one of them is matched up with Bama to create a North vs South matchup.

I would think they might avoid creating an early Texas vs Bama or Tenn vs Bama matchup.

But really who knows?

They leave their selection terms so ambiguous it's hard to tell.

I guess that's smart because it gets a lot of eyeballs on the selection show.

You said it all right here. This whole thing is controlled & manipulated by ESPN. Anyone who believes differently probably believes WWE is real as well 😏

I dont see this playoff ranking ending well. SMU/Clemson finished the worst possible way for us with Clemson winning in a squeaker in the last seconds. We will finish in the top 12 but probably not get seeded in the playoffs. Only hope is for SMU dropping past us which I dont see happening. :(

I feel like I am in the minority when i say this but Bama should of beat at least vandy or Oklahoma, but we didn't. IF we get left out of the CFP cant really blame the committee we have three losses, two of them are UGLY.
We were in the playoffs at Oklahoma, and we just lied down.

Definitely understand the sentiment. This team has been so bi-polar & borderline lazy/nonchalant. Do I think they are 1 of the 12 best teams? - yes, if they want to be. Do I think they will get in? - yes, if the committee follows the logic they laid out last week. Will it surprise me if they are not in? - no, nor will it even disappoint me all that much. I would look forward to whatever bowl game we play with whoever wants to show up and play it. A lot to be said for 15 practice sessions & a game with whatever the core of next year’s team will be.

if we get left out I would speculate that we play Miami.

I think we're probably out. But I also think we should cancel all future P4 OOC games. I know we didn't lose one this year but there is no reason to schedule tough OOC games.
I would hate to make a decision like that based on one year, especially when going into last night’s ACCG SMU only had one loss and we had three, so it’s not like we are getting completely jobbed, but it warrants consideration.

We have typically fared very well in these games, but I imagine the real toll it takes is the impact it has on the health of the players headed into a brutal SEC schedule. I don’t worry about Wisconsin or FSU next year, but it’s an extra two games where the players get beat up. We will have ten games like that and a team like SMU probably has five games against teams of similar talent level.
