Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Reliaquest Bowl, Bama vs. Michigan, Dec. 31, 11:00 AM, ESPN...

He was the same QB last year, and the adjustments worked.
Yeah, but that was last year. He fell way off the table this year. I don't know what happened after the Georgia game, but he went downhill fast. He almost refused to run in the big games. (except LSU, but he wasn't getting hit in that game). And he just had a lot of trouble getting the ball out to anyone. Must have been too focused on his corporate empire.

I've said this 100 times, but why not. Hurts, on his first day as a starter as a true freshman, was significantly better than Nilroe RIGHT NOW - and it's not even really close.

Also have said this a bunch. JM wasn't a guy we really went after. We missed on all the QBs we really wanted that year and he was the best we could get to flip. Once he was here we tried to get him to transfer or switch positions. He should have done one of those, but refused.

As for QB skills - that is on him to develop a lot in the off-season. He's hired different QB coaches since he was a freshman in HS, and still is what he is.
Ironically, Sark recruited him away from Texas.

Some kind of injury, perhaps?

No they were not. Not even close. Having Ryan Turner,Arnold, Key, Downs, and Kool Aid last year in a defense that they were recruited to run is a far better defense instantly than starting a bunch of freshmen in a defense that they weren’t recruited to run. Yes we got better as the year went on but no we were nowhere near last year’s defense. Hell we gave up nearly 200 yards rushing in a half vs Oklahoma… that was a November game. When do you remember last year’s defense ever producing numbers like that?
It's very hard to compare defenses from year to year. However, while we had a slew of stars on the defense, we struggled to get off the field at key times. This years D is currently ranked #1 in Total Defense, #24 in Rush defense, and #2 in Passing yards allowed. We were #18, #31, and #24 respectively in those categories last year. 3rd and 4th down percentage defense was improved this year. and scoring defense was the same.

Here's one for you guys to ponder

Please, please, please!
I don't think Riley would be able to transform Milroe. Jalen Hurts took a year working on his skills backing up Tua before he went to Oklahoma. Jalen Hurts showed a lot of improvement in that year when he filled in for Tua especially against Georgia.
