JessN: Potential transfer portal targets as Bama remakes its roster

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I wonder if we'll see a reduction in rosters, resulting in more money for those who make the cut. The college limit is 105. The roster limit in the NFL is 53, with an additional 16 for a "practice squad."

If college rosters were reduced to the NFL levels it might also reduce the number of transfers. I don't know what it's like in the NFL but I'm guessing there are fewer transfers than in college.

We are probably playing Moneyball now...

And playing like we dont have any money...

Welcome to the Oakland As, ladies and gentlemen...
I don’t know…we just dropped 16 mil + that was top ten in money spending. We lost a lot of talent to the almighty dollar that we didn’t match and that hurt…but we’re not Mississippi State here.
Wait a year…give CKD and our new GM a minute…see what these new additions bring before saying that they’re blue light specials…
We’re Alabama…things change, we rise w/the changes.

I just read on another Bama site that the OL from Arkansas has committed to Ole Miss. It also looks like Texas is in on the WR from NC State. Guess we’ll see…
This is where having a year of grossly incompetent offense because of personnel choices really hurts.
If I was a star wide receiver, I would be very cautious of going to Alabama right now. This coaching staff is going to have to build a whole new year of game tape before stud players will consider coming to Tuscaloosa.

And it is not like coaches can say, "We have the right scheme. We just need the players." We had the players last year. We had an ineffective offensive scheme. A possible portal recruit will look at the scheme and say., "I do not think I want to step into that scheme."

And think this is where getting Grubb (or another “name” OC or offensive mind) is paramount at this point. We know many times for players, particularly on the defensive side, the tipping point in coming to the Capstone was to play for Nick Saban. Our offense the latter half of the season was a hot mess.

Grubb at least has something he can point to in his time under DeBoer and give them vision of what the scheme is.

That’s another layer of frustration.

By hitching themselves to the Lank Wagon the Staff misrepresented what CKDs Offense really looks like.

5 Star WRs are seeing an Offense built around a running QB who is so inaccurate throwing the ball that all the WRs in the Bowl game showed visible frustration.

It’s not a good look.

Adding depth. Depth is usually not sexy.

Its frustrating I know because we all feel there's bigger needs.

Im still in a "trust the staff" mood for now.

If we'd gotten the Utah state rb I'd have been ecstatic fwiw.

No, it's not a good look, but the staff is disclosing and explaining this to recruits along the way. Trust me, they know the offense they had to run wasn't what they wanted to run and they know what recruits are possibly thinking. So they're getting out in front of it with them and letting them know the entire offense will be installed this offseason.

I wonder how they're explaining not playing Simpson this year if he's projected to be the starter next year and they feel he can run the entire offense?

No clue, but outside of a parent specifically asking, I don't see a recruit going that in-depth with the staff asking why a certain player didn't play. But I could be wrong.

IMHO, 5* WRs are currently only looking at $$$ and don’t pay too much attention to other things.
The top portal WR went to Auburn this year. It is not like they are running some cool offensive scheme there.

Well yes that's a problem too.

But if a kid is looking at..

Option 1: Alabama with a $1 Mil offer and not a single 1,000 WR in 2024 and Passing Game problems

or

Option 2: tOSU/Colorado/ASU/LSU etc with a $1 Mil offer and a high octane functional passing game that almost produces multiple 1,000 WRs

The kid would probably choose Option B because it looks like the better opportunity to get touches and create self value.

Now I'm sure as @Bamabuzzard says the staff will be trying to work out concerns a WR might have but that's still going to be an upward battle when the tape from 2024 says differently.

18yo Kids don't always make the best decisions and especially with the type of money that's being thrown at them right now.

We'll imo be in much better shape at landing premier WRs in 2026 after they see CKDs Passing Offense operating like it should with an actual real QB who can distribute the ball.

Both RW and Germie have 1,000 Yard+ potential with a QB who can get the ball close to their jersey number.
