Usually when an American president is hosting a foreign counterpart, a joint news conference would begin with remarks from the US leader followed by his guest.

But today in Anchorage, President Vladimir Putin opened the news conference while President Donald Trump looked on.

As TW has described it, those areas had developed, especially since 2014, into urban Russian, rural Ukrainian. As he's also said, it's almost certain that all Ukrainian sympathizers who could have fled...
🤷‍♂️ Records exist and previous residents could be voting and obviously no one who recently moved in but this wasn't necessarily relating to a current plebiscite, just a general question.. Most people, me included have no idea of the political make up of Eastern Ukraine prior to this war but Putin claimes its "Russian".

It was largely Russian speaking and I'm sure there were many Russian sympathizers, particularly as I said, among post 2014 immigrants. Zelensky himself was a native Russian speaker...

We probably the voting records for Donetsk and Lugansk from 2010 (the last pre-2014 election).
In that election Yanukovich, Partyu fo Regions, the pro-Kremlin candidate, defeat Yulia Timoshenko (Bativshchyna or "Fatherland" party.)
Yanukovich won the run-off overall 49-46%. (the remainder, I believe voted "против всех" ("against all")
Here is the national map:

Notice anything about which regions went pro-Kyiv and which ones went pro-Kremlin?

Yep. That's one of the problems in the entire big picture. That also was before the influx of Russians following the latest invasion...
