Trump Policies, Part the VIII

and he's even got notes 😂 😂😂

The reality is that in places like Memphis this hasn't played out as you envision - they literally have people being arrested multiple times in a single day. In some cases, people are back on the street in less than an hour after being arrested for a violent crime.

No one cares if the person arrested for parking tickets gets released, but there are some absolute idiots in the criminal justice system in some cities (such as Memphis) that abuse the removal of cash bail.

All this hand-wringing is silly when you're discussing some of the most violent and dangerous cities in the country. Unless / until you live in one and get to see your own friends and family victimized by a system than worries more about the criminal than the victim, pie-in-the-sky thinking seems logical. It literally drove us out of the city - at great financial (both personal and business) cost, mind you - as there's no end in sight.
You’re rich, just lucky one of them hasn’t tried to eat you yet.

Antifa has no structure or organization or membership roster. Anyone could be accused of being part of it and charged as a terrorist.
Of course not. They are expressly in favor of militancy and chaos. Putting that down to paper would go against their very DNA. That being said, you don't always need written proof to know when people support a particular point of view. There is usually tons of proof in other forms.

Are you suggesting that US government should apply “thought police” principles to fight against Antifa?
How can you prove to us that you are not Antifa?

No. I am saying we don't necessarily need to see a written roster of Antifa members to know whether someone is a member or not.

How else can you identify if someone is a member or not?
Gee, I don't know. How do you tell if someone is a member of the Mafia? Do they have a written roster somewhere? You look at their activities, online presence, movements on or near multiple Antifa-led riots, etc. Certainly not a comprehensive list. If you need a longer list do some research of your own.

When Trump talks about “cracking down on antifa,” that’s mostly political theater and an appeal to his base. Antifa isn’t an organization with leaders or rosters, so in practice it just means targeting whoever he decides looks like “antifa.” That’s the danger—once the label is that vague, it can be slapped on any protester, activist, or critic he doesn’t like. History shows this kind of thing (think McCarthyism or COINTELPRO) gets used less to stop violence and more to silence dissent. Has Trump done anything to lead one to believe that he will carry out this policy with a careful and reasoned approach?

It is not the same thing.
You can be a member of the Mafia, and you can even be on their roster. However, you cannot be arrested for it unless you’ve committed a crime.
As a member of a terrorist organization, you can actually be arrested and charged with being a member, since being a member of a terrorist organization is an unlawful activity.

Since Antifa has no roster, what rules are you suggesting we use to arrest people? Online posts? Thought police?

I don't know and I most definitely don't care as much as you about it so I'm going to make you my proxy for Antifa-related votes in the future.

If they aren’t an actual group how can you be a member? Are mafia families considered terrorist groups?

Trump could find a way.

Its all well and good to pontificating about being this restriction or that restriction until you are the hunted...

If your speeding ticket pullover turns into you being profiled as Antifa, you probably won't like the restriction too much...
