Question: Windows 11 upgrade, yes or no

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Probably your CPU doesn't meet minimum standards. That was my situation, one rung down from qualifying. I had other extensive problems. One hard drive with a lot of data on it was beginning to fail. The SSD which had the OS was only 256 gig. Seven years ago, that seemed adequate, but it was full, so I would have to replace it and move the OS over. So, I just bought a new computer...

I bought a new NUC myself but have yet to do the changeover. I need to get it done though and will. My old NUC has served me well but I know this new one will be even better !

How in the world can Microsoft supply two tools that check for the same thing come up with totally opposite answers. Especially for something like a major windows upgrade they are basically forcing on us. Doesn't instill much confidence in the whole procedure.

I upgraded several weeks ago. It took me a few days to get used to things, but I can find everything now that I need to do my job.

My company has switched cloud storage. I still struggle with finding documents once I've saved them. Is it on my virtual desktop? Etc.

My complaint also. And they can consign OneDrive back to the hell it came from...

Now I'm getting a message in the task bar at the bottom "Windows 11, version 24H2 is ready for your PC". 🤷‍♂️
I guess I should just go for it before 10/15. I assume it wont let me start if it sees anything missing?
Any idea the approximate time the update takes?

Too much depends on your individual machine, CPU, etc., to forecast an approximate time...

My current laptop (a Lenovo purchased maybe 2.5 years ago) came with Windows 11 and works fine. All of our work computers were also upgraded to 11 and did just fine with the transition. I mean, my needs are pretty simple, mainly browser work these days.

Blatant threadjacking: Anyone upgrade to iOS 26 on the phone or MacOS 26? My current Mac is a 2019 and will not receive the upgrade, so it may be time for an upgrade to a MacBookPro that I've been considering for a while. I suppose I will eventually update my phone (updated my 13 to a 16 earlier this year) but don't really feel any urgency for it.

I can't compare to MacOS, but my favorite stopped back at Win 7. Since then, the trend has been to bury and hide ever more from the great ignorant and unwashed public. I had to dig in 10 to find what was obvious in 7 and even more in 11. I'm always reminded of "You can't handle the truth!"
7 was great! 10 is fine and 11 may be ok. I have it on my newest laptop. I'm afraid to upgrade my 10 to 11 because in my decades of experience, the newer version is always bloated and optimized for the newer computer lines and ridiculously slows the performance of older PCs.

I felt that way for a long time.....all the way up until my laptop crashed. See, we have this insane policy of not backing up work documents on to personal flash drives or external SSDs, but don't worry, we'll have agency approved devices up and going by the year 2045 or so. I was ready to go on a killing spree, but thankfully OD saved all my stuff and no one was hurt. (And don't tell anyone, but I save all my **** now on whatever device I please.)
