Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. Vandy...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Good job by the D improving as the game went on. Also the offense left some points out there. But I will take the victory and on to Missouri. Roll Tide Roll

where did we go? Missed the playoffs by the skin of our teeth’s last year. Lost in OT to the eventual Champs the year before.
An OT we should have never even been in, having led the game until the final play of regulation and giving up a 4th and desperate conversion.

I have not yet watched the game (It came on at 2230 where I was and I ain't watching t anything that starts at 2230).
From the highlight videos, it seems Bama got behind twice and battled back, and did not fold mentally. That resilience speaks well of them.
Ty threw a pick but it was a contested ball and the DB won that struggle. His receivers win many of those struggles. Not the end of the world.
It looks like Bama ran the ball well. All the talking heads had said Vandy would be tough to run against, but Bama did it and in the 4th quarter, Vandy could not stop them. Good onya, Jam! I hope Coach DeBoer was paying attention.
It appears Diego Pavia was the one that cracked under the pressure. "Talk less before the game, young man. Do your talking on the field."
It sounds strange to say it, but a good win over a good Vandy team.*
On to MIzzou.

* I was chatting with a friend. Vandy beat USCe that was without its star QB. Not saying the injury was dirty, but USCe without Sellers is not nearly as good as USCe with him. Vandy beat VT when the Hokies had some kind of funk on that team. Since they have fired the head coach, they seem to be playing better. Not saying Vandy is a bad team, but the stars aligned to get them to last Saturday undefeated and I would not make too much of that.

Yeah, odds are good (and based on beating us last year) that he will be the next HC down on the plains... 😎
I believe vandy is his alma mater? Not sure all the money in the world could pull him from there especially given coaches track records at the barn getting put to pasture after dysfunctional cow patty syndrome.

Correct, he is an alum of Vandy and I would be surprised if he went anywhere. They have developed a formula within this era of transfer portal that allows them to bring in older players (graduate players and fifth year seniors) with a lot of college experience. This allows them to be competitive and not be the homecoming game of every SEC team. I think he's a VERY VERY good coach and is now able to get enough talent to allow that good coaching to show up on the field. #players_matter

Agree with Clark Lea being a really good coach. My eldest son and I had that conversation during the game. If he could somehow get a grip on the brashness, language and open vulgarity of particularly one his players he'd be appreciated a bit more.

The only issue I have with Lea is him publicly supporting his QB's comments when asked out them. Again, I'm good with cockiness, but what Pavia did and said was beyond just being cocky. If you're not careful (as a coach) you'll start letting things into your program that begin to negatively effect the outcome on the field. Pavia's words and actions during the week played a direct role in the outcome of the game and that's something you don't want leaking into your program.

Well it’s also that they have never been here before. I’m reminded that one of my worst experiences at a ball game was in 2016 vs Ole Miss. Their fans were absolutely trash that day. But everyone I seem to tell that to seems shocked because they have all had great interactions with Ole Miss fans. But 2013-16 was heights that Ole Miss had not seen in some time.

I compare Vandy now with Tennessee baseball fans. They take after their hero (in Tennessee’s case Vitallo) because they have been a doormat for so long
Those have been my thoughts. They haven't had the winning seasons, so they're had to be humble. So, unlike LSU, with its extensive practice at being obnoxious winners, they're just wannabe obnoxious... :)

I can deal with obnoxious fans as long as they can 1) take what they give and generally know there is a line and 2) they don’t make it personal. The Vandy fans were very much thin skinned jerks who honestly thought they were going into kick our butts. They talked a huge game and wanted to show their “intellectual” superiority to us.

LSU tends to be obnoxious but generally they want to have a good time with you in my experience. Now that all changes if they are immediately mad about something heading into the game like White being suspended a half for the bama game, saban returning, and a top 5 showdown between bama and them.

Pavia is a good player. They will probably win some more games because of him... even though their schedule is tough. Being brash is just his style.... who cares.

Finished watching the game last night.
Satisfying win.
I especially like how Bama picked itself up after a mistake, dusted itself off and went back to playing winning football. Last year's team could not
They got down by a TD twice, had some things not go their way (e.g. pick, missed FG, really bad punt from the end zone), and then recovered mentally.
Pavia was the guy that cost Vandy that game. Fumble, inopportune pick.
Nice halftime adjustments, especially on defense.
I especially liked the fourteen-play, 8 minute 30 second drive in the 4th quarter. Up by only 6 (game still very much in doubt), Bama marched slowly down the field from 12:39 to 4:10 and kicked the field goal to go up by 9. Impressive. RTR.
