Well… shambles is an over exaggeration. But so is “more talent than everyone else”.
The truth is Saban left DeBoer an offensive line that he had no idea how to fix himself, a gutted running back room, no receivers, a defense far removed of its glory days, a quarterback who had high ceiling but a monumentally low basement, and 30 days of a transfer portal period where everyone could poach and DeBoer couldn’t hit back. Had Saban retired in 2020 or 21 then it would be an entirely different situation but he didn’t and the fact remains that DeBoer wasn’t exactly left the Ferrari that some Bama fans still believe he was. It was a good high end car but it was nowhere near a championship quality team.
