And yet Herbie says just a few minutes ago that Texas’ struggles this year have been due to “poor oline play”. And yet they have still managed to run the ball somewhat effectively.

Which in my mind begs the question “just how bad is our oline play, particularly in the run game?” If Texas’s is “bad” how much worse is ours?

I have no idea where to start, but I do know something is wrong.

So for some reason in a post game Oklahoma thread two years after Coach Saban has left the program, there is a need to discuss how Saban left the program in “shambles?” A program he left with the more talent than anyone else, and was a play away from playing for the national title? Yes. This coaching staff is doing the best they can with what they have, and some of y’all can’t objectively look at the last few years of the Saban regime and see the decline. Missed evaluations, poor development, and a lack of a foundation of discipline are a big reason this team lost four games last year.

Holding it too long.....are there quick outlets, quick hitches or just longer developing plays....we have gone away from moving the chains with short throws and runs after the catch...we were very effective at that early season. We don't stretch the field with toss plays or quick outs, sweep etc..we put Ty in the pocket and that's it...they know where to pressure...Grubb needs to be less predictable

I think teams realized that they don’t need the linebackers to stop the run, so those backers can play mid and muddle the short stuff.

Ty was on target deep mid early in the year though, here lately not so much.

Our offense has been mediocre and inconsistent for a while. We just dont have that homerun threat. No threat of busting a long run. No threat of Ty throwing the deep ball. Our defense is a bright spot. We went through the gauntlet and dropped 1 game. Most of us would have taken that.

I'd love to see another angle on the pick six. It looks like we were running a slant, but I've heard our receiver got knocked off the route by the OU defender. In my mind, shouldn't that have been PI. As said, I've heard that but I haven't seen a replay that would verify it. Anybody have a better view?

You can watch the espn highlights and see a different view.

I changed my mind after watching it: I think Horton may have ran a short dig, or the defender literally picked him from running the route by just going to a spot and stopping.

If losing a conference title game doesn’t matter, then winning one doesn’t either. I frankly hope we skip Atlanta and get healthy for the playoffs.

Pretty sure the only way we miss the SECCG is if we lose to Auburn; if we lose to Auburn, we're not making the playoffs.

You're correct. If TAMU wins out we obviously play them but if Texas beats TAMU we play UGA. Things are much more clear now.

Kiffin is 4-0 going against Venerables and has made him look totally outclassed in each game. The simple reason is Kiffin is bound and determined to find the one weakness that Venerables has in his game plan and will sacrifice a whole half to do. But when he finds it he won’t stop exposing it.

I think Grubb and by extension DeBoer are way too committed to a certain goal oriented gameplan that they refuse to take advantage of what a defense is giving up. I think some of that could be us not being comfortable with our roster (especially OL and RB) and stood that may be too concerned with winning TOP.

I really don’t understand what we are doing at times offensively or why some players start over others. I’m willing to be patient and allow DeBoer time to get his type of Olinemen in but I can’t lie it’s frustrating to see the potential wasted with the talent at receiver and quarterback

Yes, and it’s an utterly ridiculous assumption. Don’t even try, they won’t relent. They’ll just belittle you like you’re the one that makes no sense.

This game was lost at the hands of our present coaching staff, not the previous one.

That’s not correct:

The only clear path is if either TAMU or Alabama win out. If either lose then currently Ole Miss has the best set of tiebreakers. Georgia actually is the odd man out with TAMU having the most to lose by losing to Texas if they had Atlanta as their goal.

My prior statement was made with the assumption that we beat Auburn. The only way Ole Miss gets in is if we lose to Auburn and TAMU loses to Texas according to the calculator.

Honestly I’m pretty happy that, to this point, said return means that we are a good team that plays hard, wins most of its games and can beat anyone - and that it hasn’t meant a return to the Dubose era. For those of you who think that’s what this is, you either didn’t experience it or you don’t remember it. Dubose had a losing overall record after two seasons and was 2-4 against major rivals.

I think a lot of folks forget about our wandering in the wilderness. Or all they know is Saban

Well… shambles is an over exaggeration. But so is “more talent than everyone else”.

The truth is Saban left DeBoer an offensive line that he had no idea how to fix himself, a gutted running back room, no receivers, a defense far removed of its glory days, a quarterback who had high ceiling but a monumentally low basement, and 30 days of a transfer portal period where everyone could poach and DeBoer couldn’t hit back. Had Saban retired in 2020 or 21 then it would be an entirely different situation but he didn’t and the fact remains that DeBoer wasn’t exactly left the Ferrari that some Bama fans still believe he was. It was a good high end car but it was nowhere near a championship quality team.

Again, which coach threw the pick six? Which coach fumbled the punt? Which coach couldn’t tackle mateer on his touchdown run?

You throw laugh emojis around, but offer nothing of substance to refute, just fluff like “outcoached”.

I mean Grubb can’t win. He’s stayed with the run all year. Obviously there are issues, but he hasn’t abandoned it. Now what do yall complain about? He’s running too much!

Idk. I’ve never been over the moon about the hire but was the guy DeBoer truly wanted from the start and I think it’s worth giving him a few years.

I think getting rid of these jumbo sized lineman might help, and getting a quarterback that both want. That takes time.

But ultimately neither Grubb or DeBoer threw a pick six or fumbled the ball trying to juke out of a dead play. So that part isn’t on them.
