Trump policies X

Morality aside, just from a combat effectiveness perspective, I'd prefer to grab these bozos and interrogate them. Who knows what beans they might spill if properly motivated, both on the shipping end and the receiving end.

From the perspective of the Law of Armed Conflict, I think both the guy who gave the order and the guy who executed it are both in legal trouble, if this story is true. Given the source, I have my doubts.
The story was that an admiral, of all things, gave the order. We don't even do that to enemy combatants in a Congressionally-declared real war. Sometimes, we're not in a position to rescue, but, when possible, we've always rescued swimming survivors. (Couldn't rescue most Japanese. They'd rather commit suicide or die - Bushido.)

I draw the analogy between paratroopers versus airmen bailing out from a damage play.
It is legal to shoot paratroopers (soldier deploying to combat) but not airmen (airman parachuting from a disabled aircraft).
These guys strike me as more analogous to the latter category, and are thus protected targets.

I love the ever-moving ball here.

We told them to kill everyone.
Trump taking credit for it.
PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) Pete telling them to kill everyone verbally and now denying it Col Jessup style.
Karoline "Who's Your Grand Daddy" Leavitt pushing it off on Pete.
Then as the press starts pointing out criminality, "Oh, that was made at the field level by the Admiral!"

Just yesterday, Mad Bomber Peat pulled the old trick of congratulating a guy for murder so you can know that well, HE would never sanction such at the Dept of War...

Leavitt: The strike conducted on September 2 was conducted in self-defense to protect Americans in vital United States interests
The next question should have been, "Is pardoning a drug trafficker self-defense to protect Americans in vital United States interests?"

The right continues to praise these bombings while remaining silent on the disgusting pardon Trump issued.

I'm reminded of the scene from thre film Clear and Present Danger, when the bad guy printed out his "get out of jail free" memo and looks at Ryan and says, "Do you have one of these?"

"I'm not going to be the one left without a chair when the music stops."

And you can't blame him, either.

The only guy that went to jail in the Teapot Dome scandal was the Interior Secretary. Albert Fall LITERALLY became the "fall guy" (and for those who don't know the details: he went to jail for accepting a bribe but the guy who bribed him was found NOT GUILTY of bribing him....and foreclosed on the home of the guy who went to jail). And Harry Sinclair didn't do a day for Teapot Dome, he got time for jury tampering.

In a complaint filed Friday in the US Court of International Trade in Manhattan, Costco (COST) said Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs left it uncertain whether businesses can recoup sums they should not have paid.

Based in Issaquah, Washington, Costco joined dozens of companies suing to safeguard potential refunds. It is also among the largest, with $275.2 billion of revenue in its fiscal year ending August 31.

The nation’s largest warehouse club operator said US Customs and Border Protection denied its request for more time to make final calculations of tariffs owed, threatening its right to complete refunds even if the Supreme Court rules against Trump.

Customs and Border Protection had no immediate comment. Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Unless someone has a recording of Hegseth saying to "kill them all", this will go nowhere. Doesn't matter what any of these fools said to reporters or whatever, when push comes to shove and it becomes a legal matter they will lie their butts off about anything not directly provable and excape scott free, even though anyone with a grain of sense who has been paying attention will know they are guilty as hell.

I can't read it, but those of you who subscribe can check it out and let the rest of us know if the NYT is disputing Wapo's reporting on this matter.

Hegseth Ordered a Lethal Attack but Not the Killing of Survivors, Officials Say

Amid talk of war crimes, the details and precise sequence of a Sept. 2 attack on a boat in the Caribbean are facing intensifying scrutiny.
...

According to five U.S. officials, who spoke separately and on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter that is under investigation, Mr. Hegseth, ahead of the Sept. 2 attack, ordered a strike that would kill the people on the boat and destroy the vessel and its purported cargo of drugs.

But, each official said, Mr. Hegseth’s directive did not specifically address what should happen if a first missile turned out not to fully accomplish all of those things. And, the officials said, his order was not a response to surveillance footage showing that at least two people on the boat survived the first blast.

Admiral Bradley ordered the initial missile strike and then several follow-up strikes that killed the initial survivors and sank the disabled boat. As that operation unfolded, they said, Mr. Hegseth did not give any further orders to him.

Agreed. No proof. Although I have no issue accepting that Hegseth would have done that, you'd need more than allegations.

President Trump unleashed a xenophobic tirade against Somali immigrants on Tuesday, calling them “garbage” he does not want in the United States as he tried to refocus public attention on his anti-immigration themes.

“These are people who do nothing but complain,” Mr. Trump said at the tail-end of a cabinet meeting at the White House. “They complain, and from where they came from, they got nothing.”

“When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but [complain], we don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it,” Mr. Trump added as Vice President JD Vance banged the table in encouragement.
