Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama @ OU

I want to point out that I was dogging DeBoer at the beginning of the season for never having a single game with less penalties than the opponent. Basically since the day I said that (somewhere around the first UGA game) we have had less penalties than every opponent and been about the least penalized team in the conference lol.

but that right there is also a LEGIT point.

Penalties and turnovers kill even the best teams.

"We just stopped them on 3rd and short, oh crap, we hit the guy out of bounds" has kept too many drives going.

I can’t stand Oklahoma or Venables. I think he’s a dirty, cheating coach. Venables really thought he was being cute by mocking CKD with the black hoodie.
I dislike the man too. His team took several cheap shots on Ty. Don’t know why the one wasn’t targeting. It was forceful contact to the head and shoulders of defenseless player. I did like that the B1G refs let the boys play for the most part, but some of those type calls should have been made.

my opinion, Ty has lost all confidence in Williams ability to catch the ball. On 4th down, when Brooks scored on the twisting/ diving play. Brooks and Williams ran similiar routes on opposite sides of the field. Both were open, Williams probably more so than Brooks. Williams was in the natural line of sight of a right handed QB. Ty never looked his way, spinning and throwing to Brooks.

Now say “DeBoer has never won a national championship”. SAY IT

I have not been feeling well for a few days now, so I went to bed early last night, and I slept through the game. Did I miss anything?😏

Roll ALL DAY LONG Tide!!!
I didn’t get to watch it live due to family obligations (stupid son’s piano recital) but I got home for the 4th quarter. I was shocked seeing the score when the last thing I saw was an alert on my phone at 17-0. The team never quit, and the defensive staff deserves all the accolades for adjusting.

Just a shout out to Zabien Brown. Teams are going to start going away from him as the game gets close to half time.

So next week, Bama will be a team that most people do not respect, be the underdogs, face the #1 team in the country with the Heisman Trophy winning QB. I've seen this story before. Hopefully the sequel is as good as the original.

Thank heavens we wised up and decided to take the fair catch on kickoffs instead of starting out at our own 12,
Amen! Our kick returners should be instructed not to ever try to run it back unless we're behind near the end of the game and need a miracle finish. If we don't get tackled short of the 20, someone will have a block-in-the-back and we'll start inside our 10.
Just take the ball at the 25 and go from there!

The thing it seems so many don’t consider with DeBoer is this is his second year and it’s a rebuild. That fact is glossed over completely. Things had eroded and he was left a broken locker room.

He is definitely improved from a year ago and yet he has a ton of room left to grow. I agree there is so much to clean up. I think some staff changes are likely in order this offseason. But you cannot deny the overall improvement.

I too am more of a fan of the Nick Saban way (who isn’t?) but as he was not going to be here forever what more could we ask for at this point? Again… this job was a rebuild. Not like what Arkansas is currently facing. But the point is he wasn’t taking over 2016 Alabama.

Ty last night was being told where to look in many cases. There was one play in which Cuevas was wide open because of a blitz but Ty only looked left. That was the difference between 7 and 3 points. I think most of the game was to make his reads quick and simple.

As far as RW. I think at some point you either have to use him in different ways or just try other combinations at receiver because he isn’t scaring anyone but Alabama fans. I seriously think it’s a confidence thing. How you correct it? Don’t know but for whatever reason our receivers as a whole have regressed outside of Benard. RW is just the most substantial. We run poor routes, we drop balls we shouldn’t, and relievers just don’t help the quarterback with improv routes. At Washington DeBoers receivers were deadly because they found space even when the defense was in perfect coverage. Yes it helped that they had Penix but it still was hell to cover them.

I hope you meant “son’s stupid piano recital”.😂

Welp, it’s the morning after and it’s time to check in with the media and *checks notes* Notre Dame is still the undisputed, undefeated champion of hypothetical games. Well…..good for them, I suppose.

I was optimistic

17-0 losing
No first down
Under 20 yards offense
Mid second quarter
No pressure on qb
Poor tackling

No where to go but up

Count me in as a negative Nancy when we were down 17-0 early. I didn’t think a Deboer team had the fight in them to come back from that. I thought it was the SECCG game all over again, but worse. Then the early season Bama team showed up.
I was a little negative too. I called for the special teams coach and OL coach to be fired prior to half time. Now I will just settle for the end of the year 🤪
