News Article: Great article that shows where CKD's mind is (OL, DBs and DL).

Great read. What CKD did the morning after the Rose Bowl. You'll get some QB buzz, but toward the end he's asked about this coming year and what he is excited to see improved.

I know the verdict is still out on him, but I really think we are on a good track to challenge for a NC in the next few years!!!

From the article:
“I like the potential that exists,” on the defensive line, DeBoer said.

Alabama's stagnant ground game last season offered a stark reminder the program's heyday under Saban has faded into yesteryear. Fixing that run attack rates as a top priority.

“The big question,” DeBoer said, “is how much better can we be offensive line wise, as a whole, and in particular the run blocking?”

I know CKD is one of the GOOD GUYS, but I'm still not sold on him. IMO he is too soft.I know he's not CNS, but he needs to hold every player to a higher standard.

We have been spoiled with legendary coaches around here. Just had one retire. I just think we have a really solid coach in CKD, young but seasoned, successful but not arrogant and, most of all, someone willing to pivot or change. Yea, I like him and he can win championships. Not really keen on his coach speak but maybe that is another thing he can learn to adjust.

Sorry folks. I must be missing something in this interview. Yes he acknowledges the OL and running game were bad last year. Does that mean he knows how to fix it? I wanted him hired , but have not been overly impressed with how well coached we’ve been under CKD.
Talk of championships is great…,I’d like to see something beyond a few quotes before I’m confident he can even get us close to that.

Excellent analysis of CKD, IMO.

One thing that gets overlooked is how he has fully embraced the opportunity to follow CNS. He knew it would be a tough transition! I think he's a very smart coach, which leads me to believe he's willing to adjust/pivot/change.

And the one thing he's doing that CNS fully believed is you have to recruit at a very, very high level. CKD has continued to do that and, to be honest, I don't think there's one of his many harsh critics that, if they were being totally honest, would admit that CKD's recruiting skills in the deep south have been much better than anyone would have thought... especially considering he's only lived and coached previously out west!

He hasn't been perfect and that's why he's trying to change some things....but I love that he's totally embraced being the coach at Bama!!!

Sorry to disappoint, but in May this is about as good of information you're going to get from coaches until the SEC media days in July.

Can he make the necessary changes? Remains to be seen, but I'm pleased he's seen the need to address things like the OL, running game woes and needing some bigger guys on the DL!

A little perspective.

It was 13 years between Bryant’s last title and Stallings’.

It was 17 years between Stallings’ and Saban’s.

It could be some time before we win another NC.

They don’t come easy or often.

At least it wasn't a Biblical 40 years!

We shot ourselves in the foot often during the wandering in the wilderness, we need to be careful not to do that here.

I can't help but wonder if any other coach could have done better than CKD the first two years after the GOAT retired. It had to be tough, especially after so many players bolted like they did.

Absolutely. I'd even go so far as to say that one player, Caleb Downs, would probably have been the difference in a couple of those key losses. But when you add up the collective impact of all those players it was like we lost a whole recruiting class. Some act like that doesn't even matter, but it was a huge blow to CKD's transition!

Unless Downs could throw a forward pass we probably were more or less what we were IMO.

Do you remember some of the defensive breakdowns we had (shooting wrong gaps, etc.)?

If he's the defensive player/coach on the field that CNS described, even in a new defensive system, he probably keeps us out of some of these breakdowns. JMO.

He definitely wouldn´t have hurt the team or the morale. I was mostly joking but at the end of the day that team´s ceiling wasnt very high imo with the signal caller at the helm. Personally I´ve pretty much washed that season from my memory as it was pretty painful to experience.

I think there are coaches who would have at least had the team better prepared for certain games.

The biggest concern I have with DeBoer is how we can look like world beaters one week and then look like we haven't practiced in a month the following week.

That's about coaching and managing motivation and focus, and that has apparently been sorely lacking at times over the last couple years. And that largely falls on the head coach and his staff at the college level.

Downs might have been the best overall football player in the country the last couple of seasons.

Losing him was a terrible blow, although I'm not sure that his presence would have translated into a lot more success.

But if you look at how he played against UGA his freshman year, you could see that he was a special kind of player.

I 100% agree about the QB play you are referring to.

It would be a fascinating discussion to try to imagine "what if" JM bolted with the others.
