I hope so because from what someone who was at the scrimmage told me yesterday, the OL (in a lot of instances) looked a lot like last year's. Defensive line defintely won the day yesterday.

I've posted this in years past, but not lately.
Rather than retire numbers, how about having to earn certain ones? 2 (David Palmer and Derrick Henry), 6 (Smitty), 9 (Young) 12 (a ton of QBs), 22 (Musso and Ingram), 54 (Lee Roy and several others), 73 (John Hannah), 75 (Barrett Jones), 82 (Ozzie Newsome and several others).
Coaches and the players' leadership council determine who wears them, and it's a one-year deal. As in, just because you earned it last year doesn't mean you get it this year. And not every number has to be awarded every year. If there are no players who met the standard set by the most prominent previous wearer(s), well, nobody gets that number that year.
And yes, I'm sure I've left out some earnable numbers. There are so many deserving players in our history, you might end up having to earn all of them. Alabama problems.

Ugh... I hope they pick it up some. I would be much more worried if the OL had beaten the DL and handled them easily.
I think the OL is a rebuild of more than one season though. I'm hoping for better play individually and as a group and then carrying that forward.
My question for myself so far through Spring and Fall camp is how in the world Traeshawn Brown (17) flew up under the radar in his recruiting class? I'm sure someone knows more than me about this, but he seems legit. My early choice for favorite player of 2026.
That's what my friend said and I do agree. I just keep saying to myself (and repeating it over and over) that our OL CAN'T get any worse than last season and with the changes of staff and philosophy, can only get better. That's what I keep telling myself. LOL!

Nothing surprising in terms of results. Not surprised at all the "defense" won the scrimmage. Our D is going to be salty this year. They SHOULD be ahead of the offense.
I don't think we should interpret any of the reports to mean the Offense/QBs/RBs/WRs are not improved or will be bad!
Hate to hear the new about Dear! And sure hope it is something he can recover from quickly and get back as soon as possible. Would be great news if he only has to miss the first couple of games!
QBs: Again, the defense won. Both had tipped INTs...which is a reminder our DBs are incredible! Sounds like Russell is slightly ahead, which isn't surprising since he's more versatile when things break down. Both will be better in scrimmage #2.
The reports on this scrimmage remind me of the ones we got almost every year early in the CNS tenure. Defense was ALWAYS ahead of the offense. It never meant we were going to be BAD on offense.
I expect a similar trajectory this year. Our defense will win some games the offense can't! But our offense will improve during the course of the year.

Question for the board: Since EJ Crowell has been practicing (at least he's been in the drills during the media times/videos), does anyone think the staff is just being "hypersensitive" to keeping him from getting reinjured because they've already seen enough evidence that he'll be an impact player?
FWIW, I have no inside knowledge, but this has crossed my mind as a possibility. I do know this: If Crowell had scrimmaged and got "reinjured," the board would be melting down even more, along with this info about AK getting hurt.

Yeah, if we started retiring #s we wouldn't have any left, especially numbers under 80!IIRC, let's not forget Trent with the number 2...

But he won the Doak Walker Award so if we were hypothetically making players earn #’s then ‘3’ should be earned too…lol
this is a good take. DeBoer said he won't miss any games, so it seems they are taking precautions to ensure his previous injury doesn't occur again.

I knew I'd leave some out. And we do have an embarrassment of riches, so I'm sure there are still more deserving of mention.
I wondered this too since it seems like he was participating in practice as usual, but he's a true freshman RB that didn't participate in spring practice. He needs as much game simulated experience as he can get, and I can't imagine the staff would hold out a freshman out of fear he would get injured during a scrimmage, but I guess something similar did happen to Miller last year.
I read that AK Dear is having an ankle procedure today and will miss about 8 weeks. Hope he can stay injury free after this unfortunate injury. We need to stay healthy as possible on offense.
