Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

Spurrier nor Saban are coming here. Think about it deep and hard folks. Use your heads and lay off the kool-aid. And for those who have even mentioned the name Bob Stoops...c'mon. Saban left and SEC school that is/was in way better shape than Bama to take an NFL job making 5 million a year. So he's gonna quit and come back to an SEC school that is in worse shape than the one he left?

A dose of reality is needed here.

Re: My opinion/knowledge of whats going on.

Jack's exactly right! They have good gigs. ;)

Dont get me wrong though. I would like to see Saban take the job here. He'd win championships imo. But after hearing what he said today, I just dont see it. He said Shula was a friend of his and gave me the impression he wasnt too cool with how Shula was dismissed. Not only did he say he hadn't been contacted....but he said he didnt want to be contacted. That was enough for me. I hate it too cos he'd be good here.

Spurrier otoh, well, I gave what I thought were very good reasons for him to not be interested. Maybe i'm wrong. If so, he'll win here too, but I dont think he'd stay very long. He's already what...61? Would he coach til he's 70? Maybe.

I'm still curious about what Christopher Walsh (of the Tusc. News) said about Tedford of Cal.

:)
Would you be more shocked SOS coming to Bama or when you heard SOS was going to South Carolina?

Re: My opinion/knowledge of whats going on.

Why is it so difficult to believe they are interested?
Well, because they said they were NOT coming!

Being a coach does NOT give someone permission to lie and get away with it.

Saban is a coach's coach and I'd bet that Shula will someday wind up on his staff, somewhere.

SOS said he was NOT leaving USC unless he was booted by the AD or Prez. That sounds pretty cut and dry to me. SOS might be an arrogant @$$, but I do NOT remember him ever telling a lie. If he comes to BAMA now he would have no credibility in my eyes. This is kind of like a cheating spouse; if they'll cheat with you, they'll cheat on you!

Talk about taking it a step further.

I'm sticking my neck out and telling you what I know as fact. I hope that when this is said and done one way or the other, the Mods give me some sort of credibility.

Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

Anybody got any quick bios on the Miami dolphins and the South Carolina
pullets? Id like to see some thorough yearly athletic budgets from the poorer
Carolina state (vs' ours which was number 2 in the sec;not to mention in the top 5 in the nation last year),their win ratio history, their current alumni donation count, their yearly stadium ticket sales, merchandise annual national sales, recruiting final ranking, top 25 finishing in the past 10 years, and their national tv appearances vs' ours. Then when thats done Id like to see the Dolphins win, loss record/playoff record/appearances in the past 15 years vs other NFL programs and yearly ticket sales. It would be interesting to see.

Petrino -- how much weight should we give the rumors? Do we have any reason to believe that UA is REALLY going after him?

I heard this argument on JOX today. Lol!

Honestly I really wasnt that shocked when he went to SC. He'd stunk it up in the NFL and had something to prove. He's got a Texas-sized ego and wants to prove he can make SC into champions. He wants to be 'THE MAN" at SC. He'd never be that here beause Bear's shadow looms too large. Look at Gene Stallings. He won a NC here and still folks are thinking about the Bear. Superior couldnt deal with that. Lol!

Yea, so what's he done at South Carolina that has him thinking things are looking up?

Stallings has his place in history and he knows it, just like most rational people don't put stock in every Bama coach being Bear Bryant.

Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

I just read about Paul Johnson on Wikipedia... I really didn't know much about him before now. He's really done some good things. He may be the guy for us... We'll see, I guess. He won two national championships at Georgia Southern and has done well at Navy; especially in rivalry games. If we can't get Spurrier or Saban, he may be our guy. I like Petrino, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

I dont know, but as of this posting, I'm more likely to believe this rumor that the ones saying Saban or Spurrier will be coming to Bama. (That may change tomorrow though).

I'd like to see him here though. *Grin*

Just think, that's if things go wrong we get him.

Re: going way out on this one

He'd be an interesting one. Do you have any facts/rumors to back this one up?

nope nothing to back this up except me and my dad have been talking about all day and this is who we came up with for a good fit. he has no ties to alabama and it is hard to say this but i think that is what it is time for.

*Laughing* Well, maybe so. Let me ask this then.

What make YOU so sure that Spurrier or Saban are really and truly interested in the job at Bama? Or, like most others who spread rumors (no offense) cant you say?

Not a bad projection. There are a couple of others I might prefer, but I'm not going to grieve over him as a choice. And who's asking me, anyway? :)

I hope and pray those making decisions look over Grobe's ONE good year and see his overall resume. Grobe is getting a lot of deserved attention for this year, but what else has he done? If we're going to get someone on the Grobe tier, I would rather it be Johnson. At least he's won everywhere he's been and been consistent about it.

Credibility? For what, being absolutely wrong?

I challenge you to a loser leave town match (like the old days of NWA rasslin' with Gordon Solie out of Atlanta). If either of these two (Saban or SOS) are coaching the University of Alabama Crimson Tide come this spring I'll leave this board forever! If either one of them are NOT coaching then you leave the board.

I am joking about the loser leave town thing, but I'm serious about the following:

I would be totally disgusted if they hired Saban after he ripped our boobies off with his comments today.

I would be sorely disappointed in SOS if he came here after what he has said to the people of Carolina and his players.

Forget those two coaches, they ain't happening at this point in time.:BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

Re: New Coach Speculation (ALL THOUGHTS ON COACHING PROSPECTS GO HERE!!!

Oh yeah kool aid comes in all flavors and colors. Some "supposed" Bama fans forget real fast how that purple passion and 45 month old cardinal poultry were passed around with the likes of the magnificent Brad Scott and ace-hound Gerry Dinardo headlining those "awe inspiring" juggernauts. This was of course before the successors were attained. I havent lost my lead hang but like others have mentioned here some have and you know what they say about people who endanger the mission. Crimson kool aid taste absolutely exquisite and I love every drop of it.
