I doubt it. He might be able to play, but his effectiveness will be limited at anything near that weight. At left tackle, he needs to be quick. I find it hard to believe that he can be as quick at 357 as he would be at 320. Heck, he should be shooting for 290...If AS can keep his quick feet he can play at 357 easy. He is truley a freak of nature.

I understand what you're saying, but he'd be fine at 315ish in my opinion.I doubt it. He might be able to play, but his effectiveness will be limited at anything near that weight. Let's hope that he ignores the NFL calling for 3 more years instead of 2. It'll be awfully hard keep him here that long if he continues to ramp it up like he did the first year, because too much money will be thrown at him to leave early. I don't have a problem with that either, though. The young man certainly has a bright future ahead of him, hopefully beginning in the 2010 Pro season.I understand what you're saying, but he'd be fine at 315ish in my opinion.
With his height that's a perfect weight. Too much smaller and the NFL's gonna want him to add some pounds.
LSU63, your on the money. The players will report in for fall with a three part conditioning test. Weightlifting test that they must have increases on required lifts and two different running test for time or else....... Also, talked with a Grad.Asst. that works in S&C told me the players were all given a body fat test and it blew a lot of them away. Many players have been asked to lose some lb's a few as much 20 to 30 pounds. Asked if he could give me some of the maxes of the players as you mentioned in your other post. He knew them but would not give specifics on lifts. But did mention some of the stronger lineman and backs. Maybe, one day they will list them like he did at LSU.You really want to see something, watch Saban's reaction if too many (probably one!) players fail the conditioning run. CNS is huge on S&C, fall camp is NOT for getting into shape, it's for honing the teams skills. Players at LSU who failed the conditoning test, and there were few, saw reduced playing time.
That's the whole point of making it public.May be embarrassed to post them at this time.
Not at this time. No need to tear them down before even gets to know them. And for them to understand his expectations. If no progress is being seen (doubtful) then it would be time to use such tactics. That's the whole point of making it public.
It would be interesting to see some before and after pictures of some of the players. I think there will be a surprising difference in how they look now compared to how they will look at the beginning of next season. I've been on a weight loss/conditioning plan for about 6 months. Overall I've lost 12 lbs of fat and gained 8 lbs of muscle for a net loss of only 4 lbs, but I've reduced my body fat from 16.7% to 12.3%. The difference in my appearance is pretty amazing.... PendryWho's the new OL coach that he refers to in his post? Have we hired a replacement for Marshall?
I'm still questioning Rocky being there. If he was the old S&C coach, he should have made it a point to tear the a new one if they weren't competive. Also, don't you think Joe Kines would have been in their face if his players slacked in this area. I'm glad to see such an emphasis on S&C, I just can't believe the players were allowed to do what ever they wanted... I also wonder if the players had the same mentality in the weight room when we went 10-2? Or was it just that it affected them last year? Not at this time. No need to tear them down before even gets to know them. And for them to understand his expectations. If no progress is being seen (doubtful) then it would be time to use such tactics.
I understand that Coach Saban likes a Nose Guard that is big enough to handle a double-team on every play, so is there any chance that if Andre remains at that weight then he might move to the middle of the defensive line?andre weighed 357 last week. so him playing under 300 is a long shot
The S&C Coach MUST have the support of the head coach. I do not have any info other than what has been posted on this board, but many believe that was not the case under the old regime.I'm still questioning Rocky being there. Andre is too good at his position to move him. Especially with a right-handed quarterback. Read Michael Lewis' The Blind Side and you'll get it. Or look at the example of Jonathan Ogden at the Ravens.I understand that Coach Saban likes a Nose Guard that is big enough to handle a double-team on every play, so is there any chance that if Andre remains at that weight then he might move to the middle of the defensive line?
LSU's Herman Johnson is playing LT at 6'7" 372. I believe he backed up the starter last season who weighed 325-335.I doubt it. He might be able to play, but his effectiveness will be limited at anything near that weight. At left tackle, he needs to be quick. I find it hard to believe that he can be as quick at 357 as he would be at 320. Heck, he should be shooting for 290...

Considering Saban put 5 DT's in this signing class, I don't see that as being part of his mindset.I understand that Coach Saban likes a Nose Guard that is big enough to handle a double-team on every play, so is there any chance that if Andre remains at that weight then he might move to the middle of the defensive line?
Which of the new DT's are as big and strong as Andre?Considering Saban put 5 DT's in this signing class, I don't see that as being part of his mindset.
There's the expression "robbing Peter to pay Paul". Pulling Andre from the OL fits the expression provided Peter is on welfare.
