For a moment there, I thought you were talking about "decompressing" from my life of the '80s. Yes, it works well. I've gained back about an inch in height, so long as I do it daily. That inch is significant, in terms of taking pressure off my disks. To explain, my problem is all soft tissue and it's hereditary. The average person has around 5" of soft tissue in the spinal column. I've mentioned it to a couple of physical therapists and they approved of it, characterized it as "gentle traction." And, my massage therapist also has one. If you get one without the manual, you need to start out at not completely vertical; think like around 4:00 - 4:30. Also make sure you have it balanced (they're adjustable) so you can return to upright easily. Start with five minutes and you can work up to around ten minutes twice a day.
I'm sold. I've got to do something at some point. My problem is that my first vertebrae (the one closest to your butt) did fully form, so for 34 years the muscles around it were taking up the slack as far as support goes. When you're a teen, it's all good. But 20+ years of landscaping and construction, not to mention getting older, and those muscles have given this whole deal the middle finger. They're sick of making up the slack and they've gone on strike. They need to be stretched daily, but I don't do it.
