Alabama Coach Accosted leaving Pressbox

Ahh - the afflictions of human nature, beer, and bourbon

UT on the horizon - that's a fan base of human nature and moonshine

Yes it has gotten worse and worse. Eventually it will end up like European soccer. Their fans have slowly brought "poor fan behavior" to the point that people are being killed, then it does become life and death.:frown:

Watch Green Street Hooligans to learn about Football Firms. One of the best films I have ever seen. It dramatizes the violence in english soccer, but having been to a few games over there it doesn't stretch it to far.

I don't know if all the blame goes on the young 'uns. My last trip to a football game a couple of weeks ago was almost ruined by 4 or 5 drunk guys in their 40's shouting obscenities the entire game (and their team was winning comfortably). Had friends in other parts of the stadium report the same type of behavior (even in the club boxes).

There is no way I'd bring young children to a football game and subject them to the drunken fools that shout obscenities and act like babies who've had their toys taken from them.

Sadly, I guess this is how things are these days.

man, if a bama fan woulda done that, it would be all over the net and media. everyone in the news is waiting for the crimson to mess up.

As far as I'm concerned, alcohol and sporting events are a bad mix. It just doesn't make sense to drink yourself into a near stupor and then not remember the game the next day. I'm no prude, Lord knows I've drank my share and more, but not at sporting events. Never believed in drinking on the golf course either, I always wanted to shoot the best score I could and I knew alcohol would prevent that. Heck, I sure didn't need any other handicaps.

Golf and beer work for me. I need all the excuses I can muster when we get back to the clubhouse. Yea, I broke 150 again.

You're exactly right. My sister was home from LSU this weekend and she wanted all of us to get together and first watch the Bama game then watch the LSU game. So we cooked out and had all the fixin's. Well, my sister just starting dating this guy who's 23 years old. He graduated from Tennessee and was coming to the cook out to meet our family for the FIRST TIME. My sister told him WELL IN ADVANCE that we were HUGE BAMA fans and was very passionate about our team.

Long story short during the Ole Miss/Bama game this guy (keep in mind is meeting us for first time and is in OUR HOME) starts openly cheering for Ole Miss to pull it out while saying "They've got to win I can't stand Alabama."

Nothing was made of it. My family never said a word or even acknowledged it happened. But my sister was infuriated (though she's not a Bama fan) and after the Kentucky/LSU game was over she ended his stay and sent him on his way. It's the younger generations that simply have no respect for anyone or anything. And it's in every fan base ours included.
If the shoe was on the other foot-- would you have been cheering for tennesee to lose to ole miss-- i would have---- Im not going to let anybody get in the way of me hating tennesee or auburn

Not when I'm a guest in their house and the people are ticked off because their team is doing bad. It's one thing to do some friendly bantering but when the dude gets serious about it and starts saying "COME ON OLE MISS, COME ON. YOU'VE GOT TO WIN BABY YOU'VE GOTTA WIN!!!". In the mean time the rest of the room is ticked off because Bama is getting beat.

No I wouldn't openly cheer against their team. On the inside yeah but I'd keep my mouth shut.

Good for her :)

Reminds me of being back home over the summer and having some of my Barner family (through marriage - NOT blood; though I suppose that doesn't matter except during football season :) and they came over one night for dinner. Now, mark down I had not seen these folks in almost five years and it was the only time I was going to see them for another four or five probably, and within five minutes they were staring in on "Bama hiring Saban because we were desperate to beat 'them'" and "Saban will never stay the full five years" and "Bama sucks ever since they ran off Bill Curry".

I just can't understand the hostility. I'll fight teeth and nail over my football team, but I just can't understand the mentality of being in someone else's house and baiting them over football. Aren't there more important things to do? Wait...did I just say that???

They don't do that anymore. They put them in timeout. "Whippin's" don't work and timeout is better.
Visit my house and you'd be surprised. In my house, "time out" is the term used to describe the length of time it takes one of my boys to recover from getting their "whoopin".

And on the matter of the message boards contributing to the conflicts with other fans...I don't disagree. However, I think the opposite effect also occurs. I can assure you...if I am ever able to meet up with some of you at an LSU/Bama game...I am more likely to treat you with even MORE respect than I normally would after meeting you here at TF. I think if fans spent time on QUALITY forums instead of smack talk boards, it would actually IMPROVE fan behavior towards opposing fan bases. I think they call that phenomenon "garbage in, garbage out".

Did they say "woe eagle" while there? I always thought it was "war eagle" until I heard some of the barners yell "woe eagle."

Nah, they stopped short of yelling anything like that crap out. Though, that might be due to the fact that as soon as they started talking about how badly we treated Bill Curry (and that being their reason they could not stand Alabama anymore) we all thought my dad was going to have a conniption.

I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments and comments. Particularly the reference to the proper use of a "time out" when disciplining children. Of course, I think each circumstance should dictate the nature of the discipline and the severity. I believe it is always wrong to spank a child for making a childish mistake but believe it is a neglect of parental responsibility to fail to apply a good old fashion "hickory switch" for out right rebellion to authority. This is the only way a child will learn there are consequences for the failure to respect authority and is why so many teenagers end up with Mom and Dad down at the police station wringing there hands and wondering what went wrong.

By the way, I totally empathize with your team's loss this week end. It is always tough to lose but it is especially tough when there is so much as stake, such as the BCS championship. If LSU was going to lose to anyone this year I only wanted the loss to occur against Bama. May you win all the rest, save this one.

I'm afraid at my house his tail would of been out the door at that moment. If there is anything I can't stand is someone openly cheering against Alabama in my house. My wife's niece did that during the Auburn game during Coach Bryant's last year and I warned my wife that if she said one more word she was going to go. She, by the way, is the only retarded person in either mine or my wife's family.

Football fans are nuts. Except Bama fans of course. But the rest of the football fans are nuts. That is clear. ;)

One of my brothers (I have four) is and has always been a Bama fan same as the rest of us but he married into an Auburn family. Now his son is a freshman at Auburn and probably the daughter will go there in a couple of years.

Another brother has never expressed any interest in Auburn beating Alabama that I'm aware of; but his daughter graduated from Auburn. So the neices and nephews that I never see or talk to except when Auburn beats Bama then they are all up in my kitchen. :(

Some other relatives are Auburn graduates, but now have several grand-kids enrolled at Alabama. What goes around, comes around I guess.

If you care about your rival enough to hate them, you care about your rival too much. If looking at your rivals logo makes you angry, you're looking at your rivals logo too hard, and for too long. By hating them, you give them legitimacy.

If you hate a color because your rival wears it, uh, they are successfully pushing your color-hatin' button.

To me the whole issue of one of Bama's coaches being assaulted is the fault of Ole Missy and their game management. Yeah, I know all schools have nuts who are fans, but Ole Miss is notorious to being rude to visiting fans. If home management knows that , they need to provide security to visiting staff members.

I hope the fan was apprehended or I.D'd and is prosecuted.

Fan behavior everywhere seems to be getting more and more out of hand.
Fan behavior and behavior in general is simply a joke in our country these days. Ignorance and excuses have created a society where no one thinks they should be accountable for anything. I'm always hesitant to say anything about other schools anymore because I see our fans do these things, too.

when i was a kid, we rolled our neighbor auburn fan's house (a la toomers corner style) when we would beat them. theyd do the same to my yard when au would win. it was all in good fun though.
