Intensive purposes...come on people!!:p_lol:

I think we all get it. Is the come on people!! really necessary? That one time mistaken or mistyped statement being corrected very intensely at least 3 different times so far in this thread. Please give it a rest. :p_lol:

wat?...:PDT_thk:
It's called an "eggcorn"! Seriously! (First of all, the :p_lol: after my post should tell you something)

An eggcorn is a substitution of a word or phrase to a word or phrase that sounds similar to the actual correct word or phrase. In some cases, such as the one above...it even has a similar meaning. Other examples...

Home in...instead of HONE in...
Duck tape...instead of DUCT tape...
Chomping at the bit...instead of CHAMPING at the bit...
Tow the line...instead of TOE the line...

Just like Intensive purposes...instead of INTENTS AND PURPOSES...

*correct terms in bold:wink:

The Crimson Tide is homing in...no, wait...HONING in on Julio Jones and other blue chip recruits...and fans are waiting with baited breath...no, wait...BATED breath...for National Signing Day!

Is that better?:p_lol:

my sisters go to Gulf Shores High School - and they played Foley in basketball last night - they went to the game and saw Julio. My sister said he walked right by her outside - she just couldn't believe how BIG he is - that is until they saw DJ Fluker - LOL tad bit bigger :) - at least i assume that is who it was, he was VERY big and a friend of theirs said he was new to Foley but was going to Alabama next year - so I assume it was Fluker.

might post a pic or two later...

we went to a Foley football game this past season - but i would imagine he looks a lot bigger up close with no pads on...

please say Bama Julio :) be pretty cool to have a star on the team from my High School :)

OFD,

Great post and my thoughts exactly as you related the similarities between our two programs. Like you, I was raised and spent my early years in Oklahoma--and even though I eventually returned to my roots here in God's country(Alabama), I gained an appreciation for Sooner football that will never leave me.
Regardless of where JJ goes, I agree this has been fun and exciting to follow. As a true college football junkie like yourself, this recruiting thing has kind of turned into a "second season" for me and a way to bridge the gap between january and the beginning of fall camp in august. It's become a cottage industry in itself thanks probably to guys like you and me...lol. The good thing is that both of our schools have secured solid recruiting classes, and, with the our respective coaches not going anywhere soon, I think this sets both programs up for great success in the upcoming years. I'm not a big fan of the BCS as it is currently configured, but I DO think that there is a very good chance our two teams will meet in the near future to decide a NC....let's hope so at least;)

I would bet ya that the love fest between the Sooners and Tide fans will become very strained if Julio signs with the Sooners. We Tide fans don't forget very easily someone coming in and dissing us or taking our recruits away, lol! Maybe if OU and UA would make a pact to stay away from each others recruits, then things would always stay cordial between us, lol! This is a war going on for Julio!:biggrin2: One in which we don't intend to lose!!!:biggrin2:;)

You forget that this is Englishfans and not Tidefans. I have noticed that people love to point out mistakes even when they are obvious typos. Trying to look smart I guess.....

You got home in/hone in backward, Fishhead.

I just thought that...especially coming from a CORNdog, ya'll would like to hear about "eggcorns" today.

Hey.I thought you were a FISHhead, not a CORNdog!:wink:I catch your drift on the sub. phrases. I do make a typo or two myself when I speed through a few of my posts. In most of my cases,it is just I neglect to proof read/notice I didn't say Poof read.

No, HONE in is correct...HOME in is not.

I wasn't trying to look smart...I was making a JOKE. I think it's funny that I've seen intensive purposes, intense purposes...mistaken for intents & purposes dozens of times...on MANY boards. It's not a typo...it's just a phrase that an awful lot of people get confused...like "homing in" on something...which is actually "hoNing in" on something. I just think it's funny, that's all.

Now, as for typos...I doubt anyone hits the edit feature more than I do.

Then how do you explain homing pigeons?

Hey,no problem ole Fishhead.......I got a good laugh out of your posts.:pI think sometimes one must be able to laugh at their self as well as laugh with other people, and not at them.I think a few too many posters here want to laugh at others and need not be so very nit picky. FWIW,I will admit my biggest error is not using the edit feature enough.I believe I must need to hone in on this!:biggrin2:

All I know is they taste like spotted owl.:p_eek:

Not sure what they have to do with honing in, though.:p_lol:

Don't they hone in on the target i.e. their home or origin? Thats how they were used in WWII. Raising them in Britain and take them to France give them messages and let them fly back. Or at least that's how it was portrayed in the cartoon movie Valiant!:biggrin::biggrin:
