Boren left the team Monday. On Wednesday he released a statement saying in part: "Michigan football was a family, built on mutual respect and support for each other from (former) Coach (Lloyd) Carr on down. We knew it took the entire family, a team effort, and we all worked together.

"I have great trouble accepting that those family values have eroded in just a few months. "

I dunno if he just couldn't hang with the No huddle , but I'm guessing he just didn't jive with his new coach heck I don't think he liked him at all.

thats gonna happen. How about the almost same headline
' QB leaves Alabama not happy with Saban', even though that was debunked later . I wouldn't read much into it.

A starter as a junior making such a strong statement himself lends more credence I would say. Still yeah there's going to be attrition with a completely new coaching staff.

It'd be more like Andre Smith leaving and making that statement. Of course there would grumblings but the investment for the future would out weigh the feelings of one player for the most part sure.

It is very difficult for me to say anything that even remotely supports RichRod. I just don't like him.

With that said, he is a good football coach and with all the hoopla that he has generated beginning with the Alabama fiasco and ending with the way he became HC at U of M, I would say that he is in a must win situation.

"Family atmosphere" won't beat Ohio State, especially with Pryor coming on board. And, beating OSU, to many U of M supporters, is just as important as going to a bowl. Depending on the bowl... maybe more important.

So, unless he is running a concentration camp up there, I would think that his goal is to challenge the comfort level of the veteran players and instill his values on the younger ones (not unlike CNS). The loss of this player, no matter how good he is, is just part of establishing himself as leader of his team and it may even be good for it.

Honestly, the "I am going to quit and go home because this isn't a family anymore" thinking isn't the attitude that I would want if I intended to build a national contender.

:BigA: RTR!

Probably not the last to leave. Change can be scary and there are many that cannot adapt and will not get on board, we should know all about that after last year. Not sure anybody cares what the kid has to say. Sorry

Running to the line on every play is tough.
Yep that's some major adjustment.

Boren told reporters after Michigan’s first spring practice 10 days ago that adapting to new coach Rich Rodriguez’s no-huddle spread offense was physically challenging. He mentioned the difficulty the offensive linemen had constantly running to the line of scrimmage.

It almost sounds like the conditioning of the players was .... lacking?

Rich Rod's conditioning program and practices are up there with Urban Meyer's and Nick Saban's. They are physically and mentally demanding. So I'm sure "running to the line" every play was only the tip of the iceberg of why he really quit. The real reason is probably because Rich Rod runs a more stringent and demanding program than Carr. West Virginia did play in a cupcake conference but when West Virginia stepped on the field nine out of ten times they were better conditioned and more mentally prepared to run their game plan than who they were playing. Being more prepared sometimes is most of the battle.

I don't like Rich Rod but Michigan in about three years will beat Ohio St. like a rented mule. Mark that down.

It's understandable, they just went from the nice, benign, favorite uncle type of HC to one that's gonna demand a lot more than they're used to giving. We should understand, we just went from a best buddy, one-of-the-boys type HC to one that detests losing and wants his players to feel the same way and THAT'S what it's gonna take to return us to our former elite status. :BigA::BigA:

Bless his heart. Having to run like that and everything.

"I signed up to get my education paid for. Nobody told me I was gonna have to run/fight".

I wonder how many hours, (or should I say MINUTES), he would have lasted in CPBs famous aTm bootcamp.

Coach Ben Pollard sho' does run a mean bootcamp!

When did having to run to the line become related to Family Values?
Without reading the article I would have thought maybe Rod was cussing at them or even worse becoming distracted by nearby cheerleading camp.

Serious comments by that young man.

I see a coach defending his coaches and his old WV staff. He should not do that. If you are a demanding coach that is fine. But never defend your effort and your demands of the players. If that young man could have gave detailed accounts that would help explain his desire to leave. Now we are left with the appearance of a disfunctional family. Its still family.
