you moved big andre to guard, left tackle is arguably the most important position on the offensive line, thats why in the NFL they make the most!
and no Glenn Coffee
Mark Barron should be a SS, and Javiar will not be 3rd team CB to start the season , simply due to experience if nothing else

The reason that I would move andre is because of his slow pass block. He was beat numerous times on edge pass rush. If he faces a quick DE he gets beat 4-6 times a game. At guard you allow him to block straight up. That will give us a stong interior line. Mark Barron may be a FS to Start in 2009 when Johnson graduates. Javier may probably start if Burton Scott plays Offense.

Barron has the size to play OLB if he wanted to, so I will be surprised if they play him at FS. The kid is a heat seeking missile at SS and will be scaring the crap out of SEC QB's on blitzes for the next 3-4 years, I think Lester or Green will get moved to FS before they would shift Barron.

I see him playing the same role Laron Landry did when Saban was at LSU. Coach Saban loves to bring safety blitzes but only when he is confident that his corners are able to play physical bump and run man-to-man coverage.

Andre would probably be a better guard than a LT, but he's the clearly the best we've got. Besides, we don't even really have a RT so I doubt the coaches will want to shake things up on the other side too much. My best guess is that the coaches will wait for Tyler Love and Barrett Jones to show up on campus and let them battle it out with Pharr and Davis. Chances are we will see multiple starters until at least midway through the season.

I also think that if Zeke Knight is allowed to play football this year he won't be backing up anyone. The coaches would LOVE to have him take back his OLB spot and be the All-SEC playmaker they were hoping he could be before his heart issues came into play.

Zeke will start if allowed to play. But with his unknown prognosis that is why i put him second.

That's what I was guessing. Its such a shame, he really was fun to watch last year and could've been a monster had he stayed healthy.

That said, I really hope that the doctors play it safe and if there is any question about his safety while playing that they make him hang it up.

Tough way to end a career but football is nothing to risk your life over.

Interesting - Chris Underwood and Travis McCall are the 1st team TEs in a two TE set according to BOL.
I haven't really heard much about Chris Underwood so far this Spring, but if he has really taken Nick Walker's spot, that speaks volumes about his development.

DT - Bobby Greenwood - Alfred McCullough - Brian Motley
NT - Lorenzo Washington - Josh Chapman - Kerry Murphy - Terrence Cody
DE - Brandon Deaderick - Luther Davis - Brandon Lewis
OLB - Chavis Williams - Jerrell Harris - Cory Reamer
ILB - Rolando McClain - Charlie Higgenbotham
ILB - Jimmy Johns - Baron Huber
JACK - Courtney Upshaw - Brandon Fanney - Alex Watkins
CB - Kareem Jackson - Lionel Mitchell
FS - Rashad Johnson - Ali Sharrief
SS - Justin Woodall - Mark Barron
CB - Javier Arenas - Alonzo Lawrence

QB - JP Wilson - Star Jackson (forgive me) - Greg McElroy
TB - Terry Grant - Mark Ingram - Demetrius Goode
TE - Travis McCall - Nick Walker - Preston Dial - Chris Underwood
LT - Andre Smith - Charles Hoke
LG - Mike Johnson - William Vlachos - Patrick Crump
C - Antoine Caldwell - Evan Cardwell
RG - Marlon Davis - Barrett Jones
RT - Tyler Love - Taylor Pharr
WR - Julio Jones - Mike McCoy - Will Oakley
WR - Darius Hanks - Earl Alexander - Brandon Gibson
WR - Nikita Stover - Burton Scott - Marquis Maze

Devonta Bolton, Melvin Ray, Damion Square, Michael Williams, Destin Hood, Robert Lester, and Glenn Harbin are a few guys that could potentially get in the mix somewhere.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Offense
QB- 1st Sr John Parker Wilson, 2nd So Greg McElroy, 3rd Fr Star Jackson
RB- 1st So Terry Grant, 2nd Fr Jeramie Griffin, 3rd Jr Glenn Coffee
WR- 1st Jr Mike McCoy, 2nd Fr Darius Hanks, 3rd Fr Melvin Ray
WR- 1st Sr Nikita Stover, 2nd Fr Burton Scott, 3rd Sr Will Oakley

OT- 1st Jr Andre Smith, 2nd So Taylor Pharr, 3rd Sr Charles Hoke
OG- 1st Sr Marlon Davis, 2nd Fr Barrett Jones, 3rd So Davis Ross
C- 1st Sr Antoine Caldwell, 2nd Fr William Vlachos, 3rd Jr Evan Cardwell

K- 1st Jr Leigh Tiffin, 2nd Fr Corey Smith, 3rd Jr Andrew Friedman
PR/KR- 1st Jr Javier Arenas, 2nd Fr Marquis Maze, 3rd Sr Jonathon Lowe

Some of the things to remember would be that the SLB is still an ILB, and the JACK LB is still a type of rush end and the WLB is needs to cover backs out in the flat.

Jack-Knight (fingers crossed), Williams, Upshaw, Fanney

ILB-RM,Huber

ILB-JJ,Hightower

WLB/Outside-Harris,Reamer

I think Darius Hanks will grab one of those starting spots with Nikita Stover and Julio Jones or Mike McCoy.... I also believe that Alonzo Lawrence will over take Javier and he will eventually become the nickel/star back!!

Just a few notes...

* No way Darius Hanks is behind Oakley now or in the fall, barring injury. If you have a depth chart and it doesn't have Hanks at the top at one position, consider changing it.

* Cardwell won't start barring injury. His back is troublesome and he's probably getting close to his physical limits in terms of building a physique. If Caldwell goes down or has to move to cover a hole somewhere else, you'll see Vlachos as a full-time starter before Cardwell. But Cardwell will play some.

* Josh Chapman will be no worse than second team and will push for a starting job all year.

* I doubt Jennings Hester will play much this year at all. Certainly won't be ahead of Huber and Reamer.

* Switch M.Johnson and Mitchell in the secondary. Johnson is moving forward while Mitchell can't get healthy.

* Coger is off the team.

Here's my bet, combining the depth chart at the top of this forum with the freshmen coming in: (*= true freshman)

WR1: McCoy, Jones*
WR2: Hanks, Alexander
WR3: Stover, Ray*/Scott*
TE: Walker, McCall, Dial, Underwood (interchangeable; lots of depth here)
RT: M.Johnson, D.Davis
RG: M.Davis, Cardwell
C: Caldwell, Vlachos
LG: Crump, Ross
LT: A.Smith, Love*
QB: Wilson, wide open
FB: Griffin, Hanrahan
RB: Upchurch/Grant, Coffee, Ingram*
PK: Tiffin, C.Smith*
--
DT/E: McCullough, Greenwood
NG: Washington, Chapman
E: Deaderick, Lewis*
OLB: C.Williams, J.Harris*
WILB: McClain, Higgenbotham
SILB: Hightower*, Johns
JACK: Upshaw*, Fanney
RCB: Lawrence*, Arenas
FS: R.Johnson, Sharrief
SS: Woodall, Barron*
LCB: K.Jackson, M.Johnson
P: Fitzgerald, C.Smith*

Note that I have four true freshmen starting on defense. That's never a great thing, but it might be a necessity.

Jess:

What do you think the odds are of the long rumored move for Washington to DE? With Chapman stepping up and Cody and Murphy looking like they will make it doesn't it make sense to get someone at NT who isn't 30lbs under weight?

That might depend on Murphy and Cody more than Chapman or Washington. Washington has not been tried yet at DT/E this spring so it's already unlikely, but if Murphy and/or Cody either don't show up (both are potential academic casualties) or Motley either stays on offense or can't stay healthy, there is no backup behind Chapman except for walk-on Juan Garnier.

If everything goes well relative to Murphy and Cody, perhaps Washington could slide out. But McCullough's emergence at that position makes it less of a necessity, and Luther Davis' performance gives UA some depth there behind Greenwood.

It's very possible, though, when Alabama goes to a 4-man front, that Chapman and Washington will both line up as tackles with the ends outside of them. Depth up front is going to be about 200 percent better than last year.

Jess I think the 4 freshman starting is not as bad as it may seem. Yes its never a good thing to start 4 freshman, but it also helps out for the 09 season where most think we can make a run at the SEC Title. Im not that concerned with that many playing on the defensive side of the ball as we saw last year with Boo McClain and KJack that Coach Saban will coach these guys up and have them ready to play!!!
