News Article: Utes not worried after studying film of 'Bama

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I'm not going to try and knock Utah a bit. They went 12-0 and that's tough no matter what conference they play in. That being said, I honestly don't think the Ute D-Line will be able to withstand the punishing style that Bama's O-Line is gonna deliver in this game. The Bama line has dominated SEC defenses all year, save 1 quarter against UF. I just don't see how the Ute D-Line can hang with our O-Line for 4 quarters. As far as the film study, Bama's game plan is fairly simple to plan against. All you have to do is stop the run, which is something NOBODY has done all year.

one of them was like "If we can stop their rung game we will be OK"

ok.. I'll grant that on a logical point, but what makes them think they can stop our run game when the best defenses in the SEC could not. If their game plan calls for stopping the run game they are going to be "winging it" by the second quarter.

If I'm a defensive player and I read this I would take a late hit penalty in the first quarter and ask them if they saw THAT on film.

Come on now everybody... Let's play nice with our friend Tokes-a-lot. :)

I will admit though, to not fully understanding the choice of the word "nails" as in "Brian Johnson is nails when it comes down to two-minute drills" ??

Am I to assume Brian is a pointed fastening device awaiting some sort of hammering implement? :conf2:

Yep, yep, yep. I know a fellow from Utah who is all over this. No reason for us even to go down there, apparently. They run the "spread", there's no defense against it, so they'll automatically put 50 on us, just like the other spread teams we played this year. Their qb is a future NFL star and will pick our defense apart. JPW can't throw it at all and we can't pass block, so "all" they have to do is stop Coffee, et al and we are three and out every offensive series. Nothing to it. Just like beating TCU and Air Force....

to the utes on here...you'll find that many of our fans consider anything other than "we are scared of Alabama because they are like the greatest team EVAR!" to be bulletin board material. If a team is confident they can win: bulletin board. If a team has a gameplan to win: bulletin board.

Get used to it.

What is there to worry about every team in the nation knows what Bama is going to do.. I mean come on we have done basicly the same thing all year.. Its just do they have the stamina to hang for 60 mins. Are they big enough to stop the train when they come through the line.. that is going to be the question

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

Reading through this thread I was thinking the same thing.

Utah is 12-0. They have a reason to be confident.

I've noticed 2 things every opponent after Clemson has said -

1) Terrence Cody is good, but he'll be worn down by the second quarter
2) All we have to do is stop their ground game

Yet neither of those have happened all year.

I don't think that the Utes should be catatonic with fear or anything like that, but those players might want to be a bit more careful with their wording.

Saying "we're not worried about the passing game" could be perceived as disrespect by JPW and especially Julio Jones and the other receivers. It's true that the passing game hasn't set the world on fire, but it really hasn't been needed very much and IMHO the passing game has underacheived according to its potential. If I were an opposing defense, I wouldn't want to give them any incentive to reach down and pull some of that unused potential out at my expense.

If they are seriously discounting the passing game, McElwain might key on that in creating his gameplan. So, loose lips could sink ships.

I believe that if a Bama player EVER came out in an interview and said "we're not worried" about any aspect of an opponent, CNS might revoke his access to the press for a while. It's not a smart move in any fashion.

The best answer to any question about an opponent is to compliment their personnel, their coaching, their scheme, their schedule and their fans. It's the proverbial "kill 'em with kindness" maneuver and it usually works better than the "make 'em mad and give 'em some idea of your strategy" method.

They must think our roundball team is headed to New Orleans :rolleye2:

One of the best B-ball games I've attended was #1 Alabama playing Utah in the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake. Incredible game from start to finish, Totally electric atmosphere. I'm low on the totem pole in my family so some of my brothers got to use the good season tickets and my brother-in-law and I were relegated to the nosebleeds with the visiting 'Bama fans. Good conversation all game, fun to watch the game with the opponents fans... but I am glad we (being Utah) pulled it out in the end. If I recall correctly it was a two point or one point win.

Good memories. Anyway, back to football.

I tend to agree you, H8, and I agree that their comments show a certain naivete'. However, your "laid-back" manner is consistent with our FB culture. It's no reason for us to jump them here and diss their players. We'll show what we can do on the field. We don't need to be engaging in smack. Let other boards do that, if they want...

I guess that can depend on the Utah offense. 'Bama will probably get ground yards. But they aren't a team that racks up a ton of points. If Utah's offense can be fairly efficient in this game we may be trading points quite a bit. In that case I like Utah's chances. Brian Johnson is nails when it comes down to two-minute drills.

Don't take this wrong and don't mistake what I'm saying as cockiness or over confidence, but if you think Utah's offense is half what Florida's is I think you need to re-evaluate your offense! And while we gave up some stupid points to Florida we held them to almost 1/2 of their normal yardage and 20+ points less than they had scored in most of their games this year. I don't care how good you THINK your offense is, the Utes HAVE NOT played the nations TOP defense from the nation's TOP league this year! And sure, it looks simple enough on paper but there is NO WAY your team is going to even slow our running game down! It hasn't been slowed by MUCH better defenses than yours and it won't be by yours either!

That isn't a prediction of scores...it is game planning talk so again, don't look at my post as being cocky as I didn't make a game prediction...I am simply pointing out that you guys don't know what a smothering defense is or a smash mouth offense because you don't and haven't played one this year and we HAVE played high powered offenses ALL year and have stuffed them.
