New healthcare thread (part II)

Well they could raise taxes for the obscene wealth redistribution upward. All you have to do is buy off 500 legislators. Check.

That is the problem no one wants to consider.

Take away the irresponsible 2017 tax cuts and the irresponsible covid support and we are probably still in a manageable situation.

True, but let's also consider the unspoken admission here: Congress is really too incompetent to pull this off. Even if they put aside their partisan differences, I don't see what they can do that won't bankrupt us.

Im calling BS on this until I see more reputable reporting than the Federalist. I can see Medicaid paying out $400m in healthcare for people who died in the same 12 month period.

This was my first thought. When you die... Insurance still pays the bills for months afterwards until they are completed.

There are probably several correlated common denominators in that chart above

1) There is probably a shrinking labor supply for all the ones in red,
2) Hospitals and insurance probably suffered massive losses coming out of covid that had to be recovered in some manner.
3) Preventive care is out the window, so we are expending more expensive recovery care,
4) Food distributors are just gouging people, imo, because grain commodities are at generationally low prices. Meanwhile, beef prices would make you think a cartel is setting the price,
5) Food production labor is being rounded up and deported.

How is food and beverage cost highly regulated? I thought restaurants set their own prices?
To be clear, I'm not suggesting that regulation is always bad. The last thing I want is some putz with gangrene under his fingernails preparing my sandwich. Having said that, regulation compliance will always have an associated cost. It's just part of doing business and like all expenditures, will eventually be passed on to the consumer.

Thanks for WPTV television in Palm Beach, Fla. for covering Gift of Life Marrow Registry's 15th Annual Steps for Life 5k on January 25, 2026, at the Florida Atlantic University stadium. This year in the pre-run ceremony, two cancer survivors met the stem cell donors who had saved their lives, and a large group of donors and recipients who had met at past 5k's joined in to celebrate. More than 1,000 South Floridians took to the streets on the beautiful FAU campus for the 5k, and the large kids zone with petting zoo, climbing wall, and other activities drew a large number of families to the event. Visit https://www.giftoflife.org/swab to join the registry for your chance to save someone's life.

VITALLY IMPORTANT to say the least...I was fortunate to be able to use my own stem cells for my bone marrow transfusion -- and I still have almost 5000 in storage at MUSC if I need another. Of course, if they need those for someone else then I'll gladly donate as the odds of my having another BMT @ 75 are slim at best.
