Link: Former Tide Player Charles Bediako Sues NCAA (Injunction) to Return to Bama

I see no difference between the G League and these European Club-Pro Teams. In the US if you are good enough you can avoid college and go straight to the G League. In Europe, colleges dont have athletics so you join a club team and you certainly dont join it at your own expense. Just because you are not in the NBA or IBL doesnt mean you arent a professional.

The NCAA imo can make no credible argument for foreclosing Bediako eligibility when he truck out example after example across all sports not just basketball where the NCAA has allowed international professional players to play recently.

Again, we have played 6 teams already and lost to 3 of them that had international players on the court. Its not a problem if anyone else does it but Alabama...

Oh and by the way, if I am arguing the PRO on behalf of Bediako, in my closing argument, I tell the NCAA "you are staring down the barrel of a gun."

The difference in the Bediako case is that he has already been in college, went pro, and wants to come back. No one else has done that in the same sport. He would be the first. The Euro guys and G-League guys all skipped college, played in the pro league, then came to college. That's why everyone is so upset about this case. It will be interesting to see what the courts rule.

Leaving, you close the door. But going pro first allows you to change your mind and then go? That's where this all falls apart. So bizarre all the way around.

But apparently Charles got hurt in practice, and is now a Game Time Decision, lol

Because of course he did. It's the 25/26 season.

If he helps us that’s great. Not a fan of the whole process but the toothpaste is out of the tube so we might as well take advantage of it.

Should we go the Carson Beck route and ask about his class schedule?

I hate all of it and that anyone associated with any pro league can play college sports but that is why people are so fired up over this one.......and the fact it's Bama!

What is up with our practices? We cannot keep everyone healthy through them!

As I said earlier, distinction without a difference. If he played college basketball, quit, became a professional actor, then came back there would be no question about his eligibility. The question is whether or not he was a professional basketball player. By precedent the NCAA has already set in other cases, he was not.

If you're gonna let European pros play in college then you can't stop G-league players from coming back.
The easy fix is to pass a rule that European pros can't come over and play basketball and thus G league players can't play either.

Pro is Pro....

MAKE them fix it or as Admiral Farragut said "Darn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" 😎

From what I understand, it isn't that he went pro, was drafted and played in the G-League, it's that he signed a two- way contract. Even though he never played a second in the NBA. Is this it?

Yes, but the east coast blue blood basketball teams want to keep the ability they have had for several years to recruit European players. This was a thing even before NIL it was just done under the table.

For sure. That's why I don't have a problem with it. Maybe the NCAA will address it and do something that makes a little sense (yeah, I know, wishful thinking)

Yes, that is what the NCAA is trying to argue. Judge isn’t buying it though. He sees no difference between Bediako and the G League players that have been allowed to play CBB just because his contract would have allowed the NBA team to call him up. They never called, he never played NBA, never on an NBA roster. He was NOT an NBA player as many of the media outlets are trying to portray.

I am wondering if this is a deeper play by Sankey, Byrne, Oats to rid college of the Europros. Sankey is quiet. As is Byrne. Oats too really.

The coaches who have screamed the loudest have Europros on their teams.

Something deeper afoot here?

Nate’s an analytical guy. He thought this through. He knew he would catch grief over this.

I’m wondering if Charles never plays. And this is orchestrated drama.

Im sure CB wants to play. I doubt CNO would just use CB like that.

Maybe. Not sure. I don’t know anymore. I am trying to find a glimmer of logic that’s not based in emotional drama from the screaming banshees on Twitter and the media. And now Golden said his piece. It’s stressful. lol.
