Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) (part II)

BREAKING: A DHS spokesperson confirms to @FoxNews that several federal agents had their body cameras on during the interaction that led to the deadly shooting of Alex Pretti in Minnesota, and footage from "multiple angles" is currently being reviewed by investigators.

Great

So they know exactly who every single agent was that committed murder.

I’m sure investigating themselves of wrong doing will result in impartial findings since they have been honest and upfront from the get go.

I'm reasonably certain they already know the names of everyone involved. The thing that struck me about this tweet is the fact that ICE agents supposedly don't have access to bodycams. A couple of Google searches solved that mystery. (These men aren't ICE agents, but Border Patrol.)

Greg Bovino Loses His Job

The Border Patrol chief has been ousted from his role as “commander at large,” and will return to El Centro.

Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change.

Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command.

Earlier today, President Trump appeared to signal in a series of social-media posts a tactical shift in the administration’s mass-deportation campaign. Trump wrote that he spoke with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—whom the White House has blamed for inciting violence—and the two men are now on “a similar wavelength.” Tom Homan, the former ICE chief whom Trump has designated “border czar,” will head to Minnesota to assume command of the federal mobilization there, Trump said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her close adviser Corey Lewandowski, who were Bovino’s biggest backers at DHS, are also at risk of losing their jobs, two of the people told me.

Minnesota Department of Corrections Releases New Evidence Showing DHS Is Publishing False Arrest Claims at Scale

January 26, 2026
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is releasing new evidence demonstrating that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continues to publish false Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “arrest” claims in press releases and on their website by mischaracterizing routine custody transfers from Minnesota state prisons. DHS’s “Worst of the Worst” (WOW) website, wow.dhs.gov/Minnesota, allows users to search by state and city for “criminal illegal aliens that have been removed from their state.”

Minneapolis Police Chief O'Hara suggests that the findings of an actual investigation exonerating ICE in the Pretti shooting won't actually matter because "people have had enough."

MPD CHIEF O'HARA: Even if there is an investigation that ultimately proves that at the time of the shooting it was legally justified, I don't think that even matters at this point because there just- there is so much outrage and concern around what is happening in the city.

MARGARET BRENNAN: What do you mean it doesn't matter at this point? You mean the situation on the ground is already -- the impression is left?

O'HARA: People have had enough.

Interesting battle of the narratives.
So, Minnesota Department of Corrections has incarcerated a number of illegal immigrants who have been convicted of state crimes and served their time & are about to be released. ICE asks that they transferred to ICE for deportation. ICE claims that as an "arrest" and uses that case to justify expanded ICE presence in Minnesota. Minnesota says that is not an arrest, merely a transfer of someone Minnesota has already detained on other matters. Either way you characterize this, an illegal immigrant who has done something criminal gets removed.
Really, this particular fight is about how you characterize the detainee transfers, what label you put on that transaction.

For the critics of ICE, I have an honest question.

How would you characterize your position on immigration enforcement?

Do you want immigration laws enforced but not by ICE patrols inside the country? In other words, enforce immigration law at the border, but once inside the country, let them go?
What about visa overstays?
Do you want immigration laws enforced only insofar as illegal immigrants who commit violent or otherwise serious crimes are deported? (i.e. illegal immigrants who have simply worked, lived their lives, not broken any laws should stay?)
Do you not want immigration laws enforced at all?
Do you just not want ICE arresting Americans or shooting anyone, but otherwise are okay with ICE enforcing immigration law?
Some other position?
