Several hundreds miles up the coast on St. Helens Island, I attended an wedding in 100F temps with heavy dry wind in my face, for two hours. I ended up in the ER overnight with dehydration and heat exhaustion, so it might be difficult convince me how wonderful all that heat is. Did I mention my wool suit?

From our mayor, just posted on FB........

I had the privilege of sitting down for lunch with several of the Vietnam war veterans who helped make our Memorial Day service so special, including Colonel Earl Tingle, whose leadership helped us honor the eight New Smyrna Beach High School graduates who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

Joining us was 2026 NSB HS grad Jordan Ferguson, who performed Taps during the ceremony and will soon begin his own journey of service as he enters the United States Marine Corps later this month. His mother, Maggie, joined us as well.

There is something special about sharing a table with those who have served our country and with a young man preparing to answer that same call. It was an afternoon filled with stories, laughter, perspective, and gratitude.

Thank you to Art Goodrich, Brian Hathaway, Frank Farmer, George Benedict, Neal Coates, Earl Tingle, Jordan and Maggie for a wonderful afternoon. The City of New Smyrna Beach is blessed to be home to so many patriots.

NSB is definitely “the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

This is the place Earle's SIL manages. Cannot wait to try it.

Wow... so if every state just suddenly moves to the ocean and becomes a mecca for tourists they can do this as well?

That and it will apparently cause most of the smaller non-tourist counties to struggle to provide services and remain solvent.

Yeah, the idea that most states have the equivalent of Florida's tourism is silly.

But the increased housing values in FL have cause property taxes to essentially double in the last few years while costs have not. And there are state guarantees to ensure the non-tourist counties will be fine.

It will almost certainly pass and just like when the homestead exemption was increased in 2008, the big government doom-n-gloomers acted like it would be devestating, yet the state flourished. We'll be fine.

And more states should try to find ways to be more solvent...

The articles I've read said that DeSantis said the legislature may use the surplus to help some areas, but there is no guarantee that will happen.

It will not affect taxes for schools.

Agree that efficiency is most definitely good!
