Bazz has started a thread on the FB board, where it undoubtedly belongs, but I have something to say which belongs here more appropriately. I think last night's red card was a crooked as a dog's hind leg. There's no telling how much that red card on our best player (who actually played; Pulisic was notable affected by his layoff and finally had to leave) was worth. When I saw the first slo-mo, I thought that it was clear that the B-H player jumped in front of our guy and the contact was just unfortunate and accidental. I thought it would be reversed. I'd like to see the amount of fast money which moved to Belgium and just when it moved. Just Google FIFA and corruption as a search term. It's not been confined to Italy...

that was complete horse crap and i hope we can find some way to overcome the loss of balogun and win in seattle.

our guys really showed some grit in the way they played last night, especially after that bs red card.

Idk, I've thought a lot about this play and once VAR called it in it was almost a guaranteed red. I think the way they have officiated the world cup it was a harsh red. However, if this was in any of the major leagues it would likely have been called a red.

The problem with VAR for me is that the judgment part seems to go away and it becomes more rule book line item based. There were a few other calls in different games where similar issues happened. Different types of plays but similar issue. The Penalty against Senegal is a decent example.

We can win but Pepi or Haji are both a huge step down. We probably need 3 goals to beat Belgium. Pulisic will need to create/score 2 of those probably.

Certainly didn't happen to Messi and the damned ball was on the other side of the player he stepped on...

That and the way Senegal was sent packing.

Giving Belgium a penalty kick late in a 2-2 game. To me, what they flagged was two guys going after the ball.

A referee shouldn't be determining the outcome of a game. Let them play. Unless the foul is flagrant.

What bothers me the most about FIFA rules is that a red card cannot be appealed.

Last night's shoud have been a yellow card at best.

Since this is a political board, I will bring some politics to this thread. I really like the US team, but feel like the "USA USA!!" cheer has been co-opted by the worst elements of our society(MAGA). Whenever I hear that cheer, I keep waiting to see red hats and missing teeth. :D

Check out How Soccer Explains the World -- by Franklin Foer. He connects the growth of soccer and globalization. First published in 2004, it is still eye opening, particularly in how the corruptness of FIFA (If I remember correctly.)

I'm not a soccer expert, but if the ref did not throw a yellow card how can the video person throw a red? Same with Belgium/Senegal -- very questionable.

When I saw that red card, the very first thought I had was how many millions of Euros it was worth and how they would divvy it up. It's interesting that it's still rated a tossup. Wonder what it would have been with his playing.
