Happy Birthday, France

My wife and I are really into astrophotography. The two main smart telescopes we use are french made and very nice scopes, but the french are a threat to not take tech support as seriously as some. For instance they sent us all emails basically saying we are closed for the month of july. If something breaks we will get right on it as soon as we get back. Mind you they had just done a new software roll out for the scopes a few days before and there were some glitches.....but..........happy birthday france!!!!

In my experience, Continental Europeans take vacation for the entire month of August. They spend the last half of July in the "prep for vacation" mode, so do not expect to get much done. They then spend the first half of September in the "recover from vacation" mode, so do not expect to get much done then either.

I mean... I can't say I don't find the notion attractive...

In celebration I cranked up "Bastille Day" by Rush to 11 for France!

Once, I ordered a luggage carrier from Amazon.de (German) for delivery to my daughter in France. It made it as far as Lyon (1.5 hours away) and vacation hit. It sat. For weeks. The normal ways of inquiry we take for granted here didn't work. In the fall, they tried to deliver it in a crushed box. My SIL, a 6'4" German, who does not take to accepting crap, told them what they could do with it. I eventually got a refund...

Those two (Germany and France) are an interesting contrast in styles. It is entertaining watching Germans in France and French in Germany.
