Him and my first squadron commander would have been best buds. He blew every single dollar on a self defense training course that the Air Force said we couldn’t use in the real world. We had no money for ammunition and vehicle maintenance.

Here's the part I've never understand with the "we need a guy who has met a payroll" voters:

Do they not understand that a personal business owner doesn't have to meet with a Congress (often controlled by the other party) and agree upon how the money will be spent? Even if Trump was Elon Musk or Bill Gates, he can't just redline all spending on stuff he thinks is a waste. Plus, very few successful business people are GOOD POLITICIANS getting people to go along and follow them. They can rule by dictatorial means and fire almost anyone at any time.

Even if Trump had the business savvy of Sam Walton, it wouldn't work in DC. It works worse with him because he's like an ADHD kid at camp on a sugar high distracted by all the animals.

Alot of Trump voters cited the fact that he was a billionaire as a reason that he was great for the economy.

She's a smart lady. She came from nothing and is married to a rich guy and has four kids. Helluva nurse.

But ten years ago she PM'ed me as we pretty much never discuss politics (she's from MI, a conservative area) but she had been for Perot when she first voted and was for Trump "because he's a successful businessman," and I wanted to vomit.

What - beyond associating his NAME with it - has Trump ever been successful at that had anything to do with HIM? I've asked this question and I get all kinds of squirrely answers like his bankruptcies are REALLY "smart business."

This has been true for mucher longer than than the last 4-6 years. Republican Congresses and Presidents have added more to the deficit over the last 40 years than Democrat administrations.

A couple of points:

1) My sole response was in terms of Trump supposedly being a "smart businessman," yet he's by far been the worst on the budget deficit

2) I'm not sure the way you're saying this deserves much merit - because some deficits run up by Administration B were enforced on them by Administration A.

Obama ran a huge deficit early - because of the subprime mortgage collapse and the two wars in the Middle East, neither of which he caused. But he likewise made it far worse with Obamacare (over time) as well.

Reagan's deficits were made far worse by the Fed clamping down on inflation while currently increasing unemployment, the air traffic controller strike that necessitated the federal government to keep airlines afloat, and the fact there was a Cold War ongoing.

That doesn't absolve any one of them, it just provides the fact there's context.

And neither Reagan nor Obama claimed to be (or was claimed to be) a successful businessman, which was more of the larger point.

In the end, if AOC presented a budget plan during a campaign that would balance the budget tomorrow, her own allies would demand her head on a platter "because you cut X, which people need!" The same would be true if a conservative did the same thing.
