I know we have three db's leaving this year. I was wondering of the ones who have seen practice who stands out to be starters next year? Ialso want to know how does Keys looks? I have not heard hardly anything about him.

First of all, I'm going to miss Ant and his leadership role.

I think we'll see a combination next year with Simeon, Eric, Mitchell and I'm thinking it'll probably be Robinson in the cornerback position. Right now, based on what I've seen, I think Jefferey Dukes can replace Pep without our secondary missing a beat. The position I'm concerned with is who will replace Harper....it'll be between Keys, Carter or Reamer. One of those guys is going to have to bring it.

The secondary isn't the biggest concern I have...who will replace Roach in the MLB position?

I agree. The let-off in the secondary will may not be noticeable, but I am very concerned about who will be our all-game, every-play linebackers, that dominate scrimmage and play great in pass coverage.

coming up at LB will be competent, but they are not Ryans and Roach...

I think next season is going to say a lot about what kind of LB coach we have in Kines. Personally, I have faith in him...but I'll watch that development a lot like I've watched this season...seeing what can go wrong and hoping it doesn't.

The University of Alabama has had some mighty fine linebackers under Joe Kines. I have to believe he at least gets some of the credit for that.

As far as the secondary, I think it will be Ramzee and Simeon at the corners and Dukes and Keys at the saftey spots. Hopefully Mitchell can bounce back from his headaches that he is having right now and be fine to continue playing football. I wouldn't be suprised to see Rogers out there a good bit either. I've heard good things about him all season long.

Is Travis Robinson redshirting this season?

I like what Coach Kines will be able to put on the field next year. Watching videos, I think there are people with a nose for the ball. What will be missing is the senior leadership, on both sides of the ball. As mentioned previously, Coach Kines will have his work cut out for him next fall, having to make up for the self-motivated types we've come to appreciate this year on defense. At least the young guys have had a chance this year to pay attention and learn from our future NFLers.

I dissagree, although there will be a drop from now at linebacker young athletic players can become pretty solid at linebacker, not spactacular like Ryans but solid. But at DB, No matter how athletic it takes a year or two of experience to really become solid. this same secondary took its share of lumps leading up to this year. Some heavy pressure from our front four can minimize their exposure so lets hope our young DL's come along.

You may be right, but 2003 was really the only bad year for this bunch...by that I mean, Harper, Peprah and Madison. 2002 and 2004 we were the No. 2 defense in the nation. IMHO, we will have a very experienced backfield in 2006. As long as someone can step up at FS, and I have confidence in Reamer and Keys, the backfield should be fine.

LB is more the question

than the secondary. Hopefully the D Line will take some of the presure off of the younger LB's. The secondary will be taller and have most already have game experience.

I agree with the comment suggesting it might be easier to replace LB's with athletic-types vs. some time being required for DB's to "settle in". The trend seems to be to play smaller, faster LB's. Looking at our personnel, that's what we've got to look forward to, I think, with the exception of a few (Matt Collins, Prince Hall...) who seem a bit more "stout" at probably around 240. We've got Simpson, Waldrop and Jones already in the rotation, and I think Stamps may get a look at LB too. Then we've got the incoming LB's (Schrieber, Huber, Anders, et al). I really think we'll be fine at LB.

Does anyone know where Travis Sykes fits in to this? Does anyone know how he's been coming along or whether he's headed for a redshirt next year?

I'm not sure DeMeco Ryans doesn't start on the all-time Bama team. Freddie Roach would have played a lot on the '92 team.

I like DeMeco, but Derrick Thomas, Leroy Jordan, Biscuit are a tough trio to beat. But he would be in the mix for second string!

Michael Ricks?

What is going on with Michael Ricks? He didn't qualify this year. Does anyone know what he is doing and what his plans are? I remember him being one of those bigger DB's that it seems we like to recruit.
