Just like the bowl games in football. I’m fine with how many bowl games that we have now. It just means MORE FOOTBALL.

It’s also a chance to compete for a championship. Regardless of what the tournament is, a chance to play in Madison Square Garden is pretty cool IMO.

"Alabama, which will make its sixth NIT appearance in the last nine years, will be playing in its 16th NIT in school history, which leads SEC schools. Tennessee, which made its last NIT appearance in 2013, is second with 13. Alabama is 24-18 (.571) all-time in the event. The 24 victories gives the Tide the most NIT wins among SEC schools, surpassing South Carolina's 22 wins in NIT play."


I am not sure if I would be bragging about the most NIT appearances or most victories in the SEC. Just my opinion but this tournament is not the NIT that I grew up watching back in the 60' and 70's.

Completely agree. People were complaining about losing these games down the stretch but we would’ve solidly been in if we just beat Georgia St, UCF and Northeastern. Maybe give us the buzzer beater loss to aTm. Either way we’re in. Our season was over before it started..

I is not money. The money goes to the NIT, not us. We may break even, but it is not likely.

I don't see this going well. It will take a major attitude adjustment for us to have a good mindset going into the NIT game with Norfolk. We have proven we have the talent to hang with almost anyone. We can also slop around and lose to team we have no business losing to as well. I literally have no idea what to expect Wednesday.
 
Watching Alabama basketball is the most frustating aport to watch if you are a fan of the Tide. Missed foul shots, blow huge leads, get a good win and then don't show up for the next 4 games.
 
NIT was a much different tournament in the past. NCAA didn't invite a lot of teams, so you had some really good basketball. It wasn't until the tournament expanded to 64, when the quality of teams went down.

That’s completely false and not even close to a participation trophy. I’m totally against participation trophies as well. You do know that there are over 300 D1 schools in basketball. There are a lot of them that sit at home. A participation trophy is letting everyone in the conference tournament regardless of record. This is a poor example.

It is definitely like a lower tier bowl game. It gives extra practice and a chance to compete, but winning the NIT isn't a huge accomplishment. It used to be; it isn't any longer. For those who are still able to watch us play basketball this year, it will provide another chance to be incredibly frustrated.

NIT is worse than lower tier bowl games. At least lower tier bowl games get covered on Sports Center. NIT will barely get mentioned. Some of you trying to convince us that this is some kind of honor are kidding yourselves. Maybe it was 40-50 years ago but not anymore. My goodness, you even have CBS taking a jab at the thing with its “Not In Tournament” graphic during the selection show.

Not one person in here said that it was an honor. My word, all that some of are saying is that we are still going to support the team. I’m going to support guys like Riley Norris who put 5 years of blood and sweat in the program. If you Don’t want to watch don’t. Nobody is making you. But I’m going to support them, and in the process get to watch more basketball.

I bought my tickets and will be there, not because I support the coach, because the players deserve to have the fans show up.

I applaud you. I also wish a guy like Norris had been able to exit on a real team instead of a bunch of pieces that never seem to quite fit. I'm trying to convince myself to watch, but I honestly don't want to get angry watching the same old crap effort and ....-poor lack of fundamentals.
