Does anyone know if Bama has ever had a 1000 yard rusher and receiver in the same season? Terry Grant and DJ Hall are both very close to that mark this year.

I think its been a good while not to sure though. But your right Grant and Hall should both hit the 1000 mark
Terry Grant-697 rushing yards
DJ Hall-764 recieving yards

Yeah, they are definitely on pace, which is awesome..

I scanned through some all-time Bama stats and I couldn't see a year that we've had 1,000 yd. RB/WR - came close in '77 and '93 and other years, too.

It says a lot about our balance on offense this year and it's a stat that's not easy to reach. If Hall and Grant do put up these numbers that'll mean good things for us through our remaining schedule (LSU, Auburn, Miss St.)

I'm just excited about our team... :)

We have had two 1,000 receivers in our history. 1993 Palmer had 1,000 yards receiving. In 2006 DJ had 1,056 receiving yards. I don't believe either year we had a 1,000 yard rusher. I know in 2006 we did not, Darby had 835 rushing yards. And I believe in 1993 Sherman Williams had 735 yards rushing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would make this the first time.

How awesome would it be to have a Freshman RB run for over 1,000 yards? Grant definitely has the opportunity to become the next best thing to come out of Bama.

Aside from an injury...I don't see how DJ won't get over 1,000 yards receiving this year. When you combine CMA's playcalling with DJ's ability to run his routes and get separation he should average 100 yards over the next 4 games. Crazy that every catch he makes just adds to his career receiving yards record!

DJ is setting some great marks - you're absolutely right about watching him rewriting the books everytime he touches the ball.. the only thing that would make me happier would be seeing Julio Jones break his records the next 3-4 years.

Also think about it this way, with the Alabama team of Saturday showing up in 11 days, we could have 5 games left, so saying that we'll have two 1,000 yard players in that situation is probably going to happen! Just some food for thought....

This is correct. OTOH, we have had, thus far, an even dozen guys 1000 yds or over rushing, beginning with Johnny Musso in 1970.

There is a real possibility that we'll have duel 1000 yarders this year. RTR.

I would add that based on just 4 games to play, the figures are: TG averaging 83.25 ypg and DJ averaging 59 ypg.
I can see this happening.

Also IF we make the SEC champ game dont those stats also go in? Because they do the heisman after all the conference championships are done. Correct me if im wrong which I think i am.

If that happens you'll probably have to add a 3000 yd passer. All three should be close.

At the rate he is going he is averaging 234 a game, and if we make the SEC Championship he could hit 3,280. And with the bowl game he'll have 3,046. And if we only play 4 more games he would hit 2,812. All of this is just based upon the season thus far. But say he has 4-5 more 363 games like he did Saturday you better believe he'll be at 3,000 and DJ will be at 1000.

Well I believe that we are counting bowl games toward stats now so that gives JP 1 more game to get to 3,000 passing yards. At the rate he is going now that extra game would get him over 3,000. We could have a 3,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard receiver, and a 1,000 yard rusher all in the same season. Now that is what I would call a balanced attack. It appears as if our offense is stepping into the modern era right before our very eyes. ;)

My point is the better the QB play the bigger the running lanes and route gaps resulting in more yards. QB play was sub-par in at least three games throwing the advantages off. They looked ready to light-it-up the rest of the year Saturday.

An important thing to remember is that the offense that is being run at Alabama now is very different than that run during the vast majority of Alabama's football history.

Alabama has featured a run heavy offense for most of it's history so that has made 1000 yard recievers and 3000 yard passers a very unlikely occurance.

Also, Alabama's rushing attack has rarely featured just one running back - especially during Bryant's years.

Have we ever had multiple 1000 yard rushers in the same season? I for some reason was going to think Humphrey/Jelks.......but was not sure.......

As I was looking at the stats earlier I was suprised to see that the leading rusher for several of Coach Bryant's years didn't have but four or five hundred yards.

For those who saw CBB's days - how did he distribute the ball in terms of the running game? Did he have a deep rotation at RB?

Thanks, Nolan

Up until last Saturday, Coffee was used primarily as RB, and Terry Grant only came in to give him a breather...

I wonder, if Coffee had not been suspended for the game Saturday, would Terry Grant not have been used?

Just think of the possibilities here. I mean, TG was just awesome; and of course DJ was his usual greatness too; but if Coffee had played, perhaps, just perhaps Bama would not have fared as well as it did...

Any thoughts there, or am I just over-simplifying things???

I too think Terry and DJ would make a great double/1000 for Bama and certainly make the Bama record books again...
