Assuming Julio is gone, then what is the new QB left to work with? Maze is a good player but he doesn't strike me as a number 1 target, kind of small. He is very quick but doesn't have the playmaking ability of a Tyrone Prothro who was also small.

Are there any receivers in our recruiting class this year?

We're in good shape. Along with Maze, you have Kevin Norwood, Kenny Bell, DeAndrew White (blazing fast), Keiwon Malone (great hands), Mike Bowman (big body), Brandon Gibson, and we have the versatile guys like Blake Sims and Corey Grant. We'll be fine. And then, of course, you have Marvin Shinn and Danny Woodson, Jr. coming in from high school and I think both of them are good enough to compete for playing time next season. And also Pookie Collins from Gadsden.

EDIT: Silly me..I forgot about Hanks..

Also, we could very well get out TEs involved more in the passing game. We have a mammoth athletic redshirt freshman on the sidelines now in Brian Vogler (6' 7 1/2" 260lbs)

EDIT PART 2: Also forgot about WR Bradley Sylve who has speed to spare! He showcased it the other night in the Under Armour AA game on a 92 yard kickoff return for a TD. Hard to make all those 4 and 5 star athletes look like they're standing still, but he did it.

A lot of potential, little experience outside of Hanks.
And, at WR, experience isn't as valuable as it is at many other positions. I think we'll be fine at WR, even if not as strong as we were in 2010.

*add Maze for now...

I remember Norwood making the TD catch against Penn State in that 5 wide set. Then he disappeared, along with the 5 wide set for the most part. Also, did anybody sort of wish McElroy had been allowed to throw another pass in the bowl game? He was 13 yards shy of being our first 3,000 yard passer!

Same thing I thought. Then I thought about the irony of his last pass and Julio's last pass catch attempt would end in a dropped pass. Not a knock..I just noticed the irony in it. Reminded me of my days as a HS QB. My first pass was an INT. My last pass was an INT. I did some stuff in between that would make Al Bundy look like a water boy

The experience might not be there next year, but the talent sure as heck will be. The WR depth is great. Speed, speed, and speed are some of the most common things with current WRs.

Good thread...I was wondering the same about our WRs. I was kind of worried about the heighth we are losing with JJ at WR but overall I think we have enough talented guys.

WR - Micheal Bowman 6'4" 225lbs
WR - Brandon Gibson 6'2" 190lbs
WR- Kendall Kelly 6'3" 220lbs
WR - Kevin Norwood 6'2" 188lbs

These are just a few. We have speed everywhere as well. We're going to be just fine at WR.

Losing Julio is a blow for any team because he was a game changer. But we have some talented guys. The passing game is up to them, if they want the ball they have to go out this spring and prove they can do it. We will be running the ball more next year with a new starting quarterback. Not having one bell cow receiver can sometimes help an offense become more diverse, hopefully that is how it will work.

I couldn't agree more. Spot on.

Also kind of appropriate (i think this is right)...that GMac's first TD pass was a beautiful bomb to Maze ...as was his last :)

More than 4 TDs in one game???:biggrin:

I really look for Norwood and Bell to break out next season - can't wait!

Bowman is supposedly at TE now and unless there's been a change Kelly is still a DB

Mackbama, is vogler really 6'.7" and change. Is that a media guide number or real? In bama's media guide I would be 6'4".

I personally am excited to see what DeAndrew White can do. Everything that I have heard about him has been positive stuff, but because he redshirted we haven't seen any of it. A-Day can't come soon enough.
