2015-16 Coaching Carousel

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Herman has one of the best offensive minds in the game right now, but I am not sure why he would go to South Carolina. Not enough talent in that part of the country to feed 2 successful programs at one time.

And I wish that folks would stop calling South Carolina USC. There is only one USC, and they play on the west coast.

Actually the University of South Carolina was founded in 1801 and Southern Cal didn't open its doors until 1880. So the one in Columbia is the original USC and the other one is Southern Cal or USCe and USCw if you prefer.

I wish people would only use "OSU" when discussing the true OSU - Oregon State. That doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon, though.

THANK YOU! I have been saying this for years on this board. ESPN calls South Carolina - "SCar" and that is just fine, if you must abbreviate.

"Carolina is in Chapel Hill and USC is in Los Angeles." - Dabo Swinney

The Alabama coaching staff will look very different next year. In all likelihood Smart, Kiffin and Cristobal will be gone..

South Carolina was USC before Southern Cal. Just because the West Coast version is better known nationally doesn’t mean South Carolina should just roll over and quit using it.

From 2010 – 2013 USC was ranked 22, 9, 8, 4 in final AP poll while clemson was ranked NR, 22, 11, 8. Simultaneous success is possible. SC HS talent is cyclical, but both schools recruit heavily in NC, GA, and FL, so neither is reliant on SC HS talent to be successful (during the two team’s recent runs of success the bulk of clemson’s best players have been out-of-state guys while USC lived more off of in-state talent).

South Carolina is a better job than Houston by most accounts (salary, facilities, fan base, conference, TV exposure, etc.). Personally I prefer Smart to Herman, but would be fine with either. With Herman only being one-year into the program my guess is he’ll stay there if they back up their promises of a raise and facility improvements and a push to get into Big 12. Have no clue as to what Smart will do and am only guessing on Herman (I’m no “insider”). For what it’s worth the “talk” here in Columbia has been focused primarily around Herman the past week. After that lots of theories/guesses, with Smart being heavily in the mix.

For my money they’ll be hard pressed to do better than Smart if they can lure him away from what is arguably the best coordinator job in the nation.

I know he's a Tennessee homer, but Clay Travis wrote on his blog this morning that hes convinced that the iron bowl will be Saban's 'last sec regular season game.' Don't know what he's basing that on, he could just be pulling it out of thin air.

Assuming Kirby goes to South Carolina why would Cochran go with him?

That's been the speculation for a while. He and Smart are BFF and their families are very close. I guess nobody really knows for sure, but don't be surprised if that happens.

You lost me at "Clay Travis"....

After LSU run's Les off, if I were UGA I'd get on the phone and try to reunite him and Chavis in Athens.

Probably coming out again today after the Tom Herman reports last night and then this morning saying he's withdrawn his name from consideration.

Yep.

Everything to date is likely just wild speculation from internet pay sites with "insider" information and sports reporters making two phone calls and then tweeting the results. There's a good dozen jobs open right now, if Smart is interested in being a HC I seriously doubt he's going to make a decision quickly. Of course what do I know.

He's right, it will be...just not this year.
