2016 Season QB Thread

But we really have no "proof" of that yet. We won't until he throws a pic in a tight game and then bounces back.

FWIW, I hope he's got a short memory, but I was just making an observation that we haven't seen how he'll handle it yet...

Moon--most kids that fumble on their first ever college snap with their team trailing 3 to nothing would go hide somewhere. Jalen just brushed it off and came back strong. Had he gone into panic mode the result of the game could have been different.

I understand...he came back and handled the opportunity far better than we might have imagined. However, it was said on one of the threads that the fumbled didn't seem to be his fault. Even if it was, fumbles happen occasionally on exchanges.

INTs, on the other hand, can become a head thing for qbs. The INT he threw later was not a factor in the game.

So, as stated earlier, we really haven't seen him bounce back from something like that in a real close game.

I'm not trying to be contrary, just stating an observation, yet hoping whenever he has a rough spot he's able to demonstrate the coolness the coaches speak of and we've seen up to this point.

Not spoiled at all, just happy we have a more talented QB this year.

This may be true in potential, but I would take Coker at the tale end of last year over anyone on the team right now. 2nd game of the season for a TF over Coker LSU on is no contest. I do think the receivers have to get adjusted to a QB, which is why you see more drops early.

Just from what we have seen of Jalen so far his body language indicates he has ice water in his veins. A lot of TF QB's might have frozen after that first lost fumble in the USC game. He came back in like absolutely nothing bad had happened....cool as a cucumber. Now maybe an INT or even a Pick Six could get in a young QB's head more....that's possible.

But it just seems like Jalen has the 'IT' factor where he's not one to get rattled. It's an ongoing process so we will see how he continues to develop. I feel confident in him though.....and I haven't given up on Blake either. Both guys bring a lot to the table and I hope the staff continues to invest time in developing both. You never know when a guy is one play from having to come on the field.

Let me touch on few things since the title of the thread is very broad and I appreciate that, because I want to say some things and then come back to some posts:

This season we've seen True Freshman or redshirt freshman taking control at the QB and has done well at minimum effort such as FSU St, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. I'm sure there's more, but I'm stopping there for now. I've been extremely impressed with how those guys have handled pressures and making accurate throws. I was impressed with Frenchy ( FSU QB) and how he rallied his team back to a win against Ole miss.

I feel like It's not about where they played at high school level, nor is it about their talent level. It's more about how hard they work from the moment they step on the campus and continuing to impress the team with their knowledge of the game. I don't think any of those guys would've started for a team 4 years ago.

So my point is that Hurt is ready to play because of his maturity and that's hard to find these days. So, I feel like in my opinion that we could see historic performance from all of those guys and could potentially see them in December for Heisman.

You have a good point, but CNS went said in his press conference that Jalen doesn't get rattled by a bad play. That CNS came out and said it, this early in JH's career, tell us a lot.

I agree. I was always skeptical about quarterback recruiting until Kiffin arrived. Look back at who came and went during the Nuss era for example. The best of the bunch was probably a walk on Del Rio who surpassed every recruited quarterback on the roster during his true Freshman year, AJ aside. How they picked Parker McLeod who handed the ball off to Tyren Jones mainly over Del Rio was a perfect example. Luke's departure led to the transfer of Coker. If not it would have been Sims vs Del Rio. Watson and Greg were Shula recruits. AJ was a McElwain recruit and then we were nearly desperate, which helped us land Coker, just to have healthy competition with Sims. Barnett and Jalen is a testament to Kiffin's ability to scout. Just like Del Rio. as Freshman, have surpassed every upper class-man on the roster. Barnett is far from being a bust or he wouldn't be 2nd string, it would be another Nuss recruit in Bateman or Cornwell.

The next Jameis Winston of the state will probably come to Alabama, that is how much positives have been made.

I like how ticked Jalen looked on the sidelines after the fumble in the 4th qtr against WKU. It shows his passion and a willingness to want things to be perfect. What a leader would be doing. I am ready to see him light it up against Ole Miss! RTR!

He coaches like the score is tied at the start of the 4th quarter against a good team about 99% of the time.

Saban says the three older QBs were on the scout team this week.

Why is Barnett running the scout team? Pretty telling that they are full in......unless we are down by 14 and can't score. Jalen has the "it" but the 2 prettiest throws, although under much less pressure, were the 2 by Barnett vs USC. For what it's worth, which os probably 2nd string. You never know. You need two quality, never forget when Brody went down.

Had similar thoughts. I figured BB8 was running it some for the mobility aspect but probably not as much as Bateman or Cornwell.

Blake had to get some second string reps during the week. Don't see him solely being on scout team.

That makes sense, and it is better than sitting on the bench while the 1 gets most of the reps. Barnett is a solid 2 I would think. I would rather lose both Bateman and Corwell than Blake considering we have another Kiffin stud on the way.

Yeah. There is no way Barnett was just following the scout team around. Probably pulled him over when they wanted to run some of the more mobility based stuff they use. Sprint outs, RPO, etc

I can see where Barnett could give the defense a good simulation of what Chad Kelly would look like. Remember this was a Thursday practice. The gameplan has already been put in and Hurts and Barnett have probably gotten all the reps Monday through Wednesday. I think its a good way to get your QBs more work.

Forget who is playing QB, I'm happy to hear that Saban is happy about something.
I like how coach keeps everyone on the edge of a cliff. One day will will hear KIffin talk about coach Saban like Namath did coach Bryant no doubt. These 3 years will make him a much better coach at the next level.. CNS is too complex to 100% figure out........beat, or take upper hand.
