2018 NFL Draft Thread

Julio is not going to leave Atlanta. He's the centerpiece of their offense. He just deleted his social media because I think he's really on an anti-social media kick if you go by his Bama Cuts vid.

Baker is the best at basically every type of throw in every situation. It's pretty insane.

Still disagree. I say he'll be a bust. He played in a no defense league. You are going to be more accurate when you are have no one around the receiver. I don't think he was hitting tight windows, he was hitting wide open receivers. You can run highlights of every QB and they all will have those perfect passes, but you usually don't see the guy in your face in the pocket throws. The NFL is a passing league and every defensive end and LB can run. He'll be bottled up and forced to stay in the pocket and make decisions. If he can read a defense he'll do OK, if not he'll be out of the league in 3 or 4 years. We shall see. Also, iIf you point to the Georgia game, they had not played a true spread team all year and Kirby always coughs up a fur ball when they do.

I mean, you're not really bringing any evidence for your claims. You're kinda just repeating the opposite of what the numbers/data says. I don't claim to be anything close to an expert especially for QBs but all the information I have seen indicates he has a real shot at being a very good NFL QB. That said, QBs are notoriously hard to scout so he could very well end up being a bust but IMO he and Rosen were the best in this class.

I would have to look up the numbers and such but I'm pretty sure BIG mentioned that Mayfield was actually the only QB in this class that rose to the challenge vs better teams. See Georgia and Ohio State. I know you gave an excuse for Georgia but to me it feels like you just don't like Mayfield. He plays no defense but when he does it doesn't count because of Kirby?

Ryan Leaf had good numbers too. Jamarcus Russell had good numbers. Numbers mean squat.

Everyone likes to pull those 2 names out when they don’t like the #1 pick. I’m kinda surprised that there wasn’t many post about Allen last night since AJ is a Bill.
 
A ton of people dislike Mayfield because he has shown extremely poor judgement - I am one of them. But I also believe that he can be a HoF QB if he can control his impulsive behaviors. He is not a cancer like Manziel, but there are risks.

Based on talent alone, he is the best QB in this year's draft - and it is neither arguable nor close. Stats may not mean everything, but they mean something. So do wins and losses against tough competition. Pick your stat - he wins. But we all know that often isn't enough. We just have to see what happens. Because he went to Cleveland, few people outside of that area will be pulling for him. I am not sure where I sit, but I harbor no ill feelings. I have finally gotten over the flag planting (and beating us).

Mayfield's biggest detriment to his success is that he was drafted by Cleveland. They have poor ownership and coaching. Now, with that being said, they do have a lot of draft picks piled up. So if they hit on some of those this year they'll actually have one of the better young nucleus of talent in the NFL. If they can get some stability IRT coaching and player development Mayfield can have success. If it's the same old Browns he's going to struggle just like any other QB would in that situation..

B1GTide explained it better than I did. I think Leaf is relevant because he had talent but he had other personality flaws that were a detriment to his success. So far Mayfield's judgement looks to be in question and that could be his undoing. Plus, he got drafted where talent goes to die. The odds are stacked against him.

Hey if I am wrong I will apologize to you and to Mayfield.
 
Mayfield will face a meat grinder week in and week out, which he's never done in his career. His walk on chip means squat and the talent gap all offensive players in the big twelve enjoy will be inverted where he's at. Not to mention the time he buys his receivers by scrambling will bet less as the defensive players are much faster in the NFL.

Your analytics fail to account for many factors that he will face when he goes to Cleveland, including colder weather for half the season.

Personally, I don't like the showmanship or his poor judgement.

Again, I'm not saying that Mayfield is a sure fire prospect. Literally said that multiple times. He could be a bust. But at least have your criticism based in fact. His personality absolutely matters but so does the actual act of playing football. To pretend that he isn't good is borderline absurd. And to say he doesn't have certain skills when there are stats and tape to show that he does in fact have those skills is silly.
