Politics: 2020 Dem POTUS candidate catch all discussion thread

of course, it could happen, but i wouldn't count on a quick market rebound. this is going to devastate businesses at every scale and there is going to be a huge ripple effect. we will eventually bounce back, but i think it will be a long hard slog.

my biggest worry is that biden wins in november and then we get someone even worse than trump in 2024 after 4 years of vilifying the dems for all of the problems the country is experiencing.
just adding to this a bit. i saw someone on a blog making the point that this is going to create real pressure on state and local governments due to declines in sales, use, fuels taxes and tolls, etc. i don't think there is going to be anything left seriously unaffected

This is my concern. Here in huntsville stories on the news are all phrasing stories in such a way that leaves no doubt in viewers mind that it is Trump who is fixing things. “President Trump is proposing giving 1000$ blah blah blah.” Which I find interesting because when he was calling it a hoax, it was always someone in his administration offering the suggestion to social distance etc. Now he is the champion protecting Americans from this virus.

Its difficult to recognize, but it’s happening. They are white washing his inaction early and replacing it with the super hero persona.

I said this the day he got elected. Trump is the first politician in the modern social media obsessed and post fairness doctrine world to understand how to use the media to its utmost. It doesn’t matter what you say in the public space, it’s what you say last and loudest. This is only exacerbated by having an entire network dedicated to pushing the desired narrative.

In two months it will only be those with a true hate-on for the president who will even remember that he, his administration, and his squad of cheerleading empty suits all called COVID-19 a hoax and a democrat nothingburger. Everyone else will look around, recognize that 99% of the people they know are still alive, they now have 1000 more dollars in their pocket thanks to the benevolent orange dictator, and wonder why everyone was in a fuss because it wasn’t nearly as bad as all those stupid democrats were making it out to be.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American populace.
I honestly think you're wrong. Maybe not about Alabama and the kindred states, but certainly the swing states, where he has not delivered...

I would love for you to be able to quote my earlier post on Nov 4th and call me the biggest chicken little who is terrible at politics and sociology. If there was a ban punishment for being so terribly stupid I would gladly suffer it.

However right now I am seeing an unending stream of posts out of fairly middle-left publications effectively saying that DJT shouldn‘t even bother attempting to show up as this poor crisis management is his undoing. My concern is that these articles are essentially the 4th or 5th version of ”THIS is the moment the American people will finally realize the emperor has no clothes.” Bernie bro’s are essentially proposing that the DNC is utilizing the pandemic, and associated primary voting policies to suppress the Bernie vote. The American left is eating itself by either congratulating themselves for finally being able to declare “ding dong the witch is dead” while the other half is protesting the choice of candidate who America has coalesced behind to the point that they are willing to blow up any legitimate challenger because they didn’t get their way.

What it comes down to is that this is technically the second pandemic we as a country have had to deal with in the past 4 years. The first started much the same as the second. Systematic distrust of science, government, and media allowed Trump to infect half of America with the TRUMP-45 virus. It was spread through Facebook, bigotry, idolatry and through a healthy dose of unwitting Americans, was allowed to spread and infect the minds of so many people. COVID-19 isn’t really all that different. Many have been raising alarm before the past 3 months. Even now we are having discussions where people think that this is all an overreaction, and people should continue on as they want to not realizing just how disastrous their decisions can impact not only themselves, but so many around them.

The parallels are pretty crazy. What I fear is much like TRUMP-45, people will have to figure out how to incorporate COVID-19 into their daily lives For the foreseeable future. I really hope I am wrong, and we will eradicate both. But like any virus, even if you remove patient zero, the fallout for everyone else is no less severe and life changing.

And the hard core Bernie fans are now calling this election “illegitimate” since voting happened with the corona virus. Good grief the odds were actually stacked in Bernie’s favor today and he still got crushed. The truth is that Bernie was done last Tuesday but wanted desperately to get one more week and one more debate in.

I still think you're wrong. I passionately hope so...

yeah at this point it’s just subjecting more people to the virus, and hurting chances in November for “I voted” stickers. Bernie needs to make a deal with Biden and get out.

Some states may be using the presidential primary to hold state primaries for state and local races. Those, of course, could be held at a later date. I was just pointing out there is a need for them beyond letting Joe pile on.

Any state that will hold a caucus should be kicked out of the union and have a giant wall built around it.

It looks like the Senate runoff in Alabama will be delayed. So that means more weeks of seeing ads about Tubby living in Florida and Sessions not supporting Trump even though that isn’t the job of the attorney general.

I get it, but there is a point in time where presidential primaries should end. Sure states should still have there elections, but Bernie still claiming a path forward at this point is beyond stupid.
