I like our chances. Guess we'll see what means the most to him.
I know NOTHING except some are predicting BYU has the inside angle. Let's face it, he'll get to the league playing anywhere, but I really think the recent SEC/ACC challenge results, our final four run last year, plus our entertaining pre-SEC schedule/TV time should make him think a lot about playing for CNO/Bama. If he wants to be sharpened and improved in the 1 year he's in college, Bama is a good a place as possible to take up a one year residency. Plus, he can watch some good SEC football too!

I can see both sides on this one. While I agree he will get better competition at Bama he would get all the minutes he wants and have a chance to drop 30 a game at BYU. Hope he chooses competition.

You don't have to watch AJD very long to see he's a Brandon Miller clone, maybe even on steroids. He's almost identical in size and has a similar game.

He can do it all: bring the ball up the court in transition, shoot 3s and midranges, go STRONG to the hoop, and finish with authority.

Two things he might already be better than Miller at right now:
This is not a knock on AJ, as he is extremely gifted, but you do realize Brandon Miller is the best young superstar in the NBA right now. Just the last three games he has averaged over 30 real life points per game against NBA competition and is racking up steals, assists, rebounds, and blocks as well. AJ may be the next Michael Jordan, but Miller is better than him as of this very date.

I was comparing him to "BM early freshman" at Bama. He was a little tentative and weak early on. About the start of SEC play he figured out how to be more aggressive.

Gotcha. On Nov. 24th after we beat Michigan State I text my buddies in group chat and said "Brandon Miller is that dooood". I could tell early on that he was different. Seems to be a good person as well so he isn't hard to root for.

Couple of recent notes on AJ Dybantsa:

Decision may come as soon as next week.

Excerpt from the latter Zagsblog link:

... Alabama assistant coach Preston Murphy was courtside on Friday. He’s Dybantsa’s former AAU coach.

This Grind Session event is being held in Murray KY.

This is common knowledge but, I think AJ's relationship with Preston Murphy carries a lot of weight in this process.

BAMA / UNC game might have given Dybantsa SR some serious thoughts to ruminate on since Wednesday night.

The Dybantsas have been to BYU games, but can't imagine they have seen anything like the show Dad saw at the Dean Smith Center this week.

As others have said, if AJ wants to be a part of exciting, competitive basketball in college, the answer to the question is probably not BYU.

As stated before, I don't believe the money thing will be the deciding factor.

BAMA has everything he needs to get him through one year of school and on to the "big pay check." :)

More AJ Dybantsa news. :)

Dec 8, 2024 article from Sam Lance on Zagsblog

Of note, AJ's breakdown of each school. Read into it what you will. :)

AJ Dybantsa said:
Kansas: “Great school. Bill Self is a great coach and has sent a lot of guys to the league. When I went on my visit I like what they presented to me. He just sees me as more of like what Andrew Wiggins did. Obviously, times have changed. But he thinks I can be one of those guys.”

North Carolina:Hubert [Davis] — having an iffy season right now — but their past, you can’t really beat it. I think they have the top three most guys drafted of all-time.”

On his role at UNC: “Big guard, playing wing. Playing on the ball, playing off the ball. A lot of things.”

Alabama: “Obviously, that was by far the best football game I went to on my visits. I mean, it’s Alabama. They had 110,000. So it was a great environment. Preston does most of the talking with me since I knew him, had a long relationship. Obviously, I know Derrion [Reid] is there right now, so just trying to have me play a bigger role than him, but similar to him right now.”

On the similarities with Brandon Miller: “Yeah, on my visit they were comparing my game to his. And I would come in and do that.”

BYU:Kevin Young, coming from the NBA, I think that’s what he’s trying to do to this program. So that’s why I put them in my top four.”

On Egor Demin’s breakout season: “When I was on my visit, he was trying to put me in concepts where Egor would be at. So that was the biggest thing.”

I don't know what we'll lose off this year's team....know Sears, Cliff and Nelson, but imagine bringing in this guy to go with the young talent we have around Philon, Holloway, Reid, Sherrell and company???
Oats will hit the transfer portal hard I am sure as Bama likely loses Mallette, Youngblood, Sears, Wrightsell, Nelson, Cliff, Reid and Philon. Maybe also Stevenson. Will be a young team next year. Dybantsa would help make it exciting.

You guys are correct. There will be considerable turnover. I would expect Coach Oats to bring in another mix of transfer and freshmen like he did this year.

I would venture to say that if any one of this years team is sitting the fence at the end of the season, they might would stay another year just to play with AJ.

Will be a fun ride if AJ decides to come to Tuscaloosa. :)
