Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

Problem with ha ha take is elhis expectations may be too high
But it also tells you why some unexpected guys are in the portal now.

I think Dix and Morgan are playing hardball now. Bring them in, tell them what their perceived NIL value is based on past performance/production, what they feel their role will be next year. If they aren’t happy, go play the free agency game in the portal.

Is this a wise play? Only time will tell. One thing I feel for certain. You better make sure you have the best coaches available in terms of development because in many cases you aren’t going to be able to “out talent” the other guy like we have in years past under Saban.

Trying to keep up with all this is dizzying and very frustrating. Listening to JOX just now I decided to turn it off and pull up music instead. It's sad what our game has become. Someone just poke me and wake me for the season opener since the spring game is no more. That is unless I'm on the water paddling around trying to catch a smallmouth.

Sincerely,
Disgruntled CFB Fan
Wait…you mean you don’t find a spring football celebration with a bouncy house, face painting and the assistant coach sack race exhilarating? Party pooper…..

And this may very well be what we are seeing and don’t understand. The players are trying to be developed and they’ve hit a ceiling or feel entitled and won’t put in the work etc.

It is seemingly the only play. Its sad, but i agree with sending them packing. Copy Indiana in terms of building personnel…

A 3* might have a higher ceiling and something to prove and be willing to fight for it vs a 5* treated like royalty and have every big name school in the country fighting for them giving them the attitude that they were born halfway down the 3rd base line.

I may be in the minority, but losing Smith doesn't seemed to rattle me at all. the dude like Russaw who I mentioned earlier when he decided to go portal, was another 5 star overhyped player who didn't live up to expectations. Russaw was injured, what was Smith's issues ? there were times I had to make sure he was even in the line up. aside from a few great plays, he disappeared most of the 3 years he was here. I actually am more surprised he wants to go to portal route instead of declaring for the draft. then again. he's a late 4th to 5th round type anyway. Give me the young pups who are hungry and want to prove something rather than guys who expect to play because they five stars next to their names. Anyone remember when Smith was called for Personal Foul for two straight games? one was a complete bonehead paly that gave the opponent a free 1st down after the defense got them off the field. his absence will hurt the depth chart, but I won't miss him too much regardless.

This does also beg the question…if a guy wasn’t producing, why not put the next man up in? Maybe he needed time under the big lights to show up. Heck, we didn’t know about Pierre till Russaw got hurt and he was forced into action. And boy howdy did he grow under those big lights!

I love this post. It’s actually comforting to read.

Imagine we lose several starters/part time starters who occasionally did something but more often did not or disappeared or were outplayed by other guys in their position and they cost a lot of unnecessary NIL but replace them with much cheaper/as productive or even slightly more productive options….thats upgrading to me

Pierre gained lots love coming out of HS , but he was overshadowed by Russaw because of the rankings. lots of fans and people in the know were very high on Pierre and it took time for him to develop. now we see the hype was justified.

One of my favorite quotes from “The Andy Griffith Show” and episode of “Opie and the Hobo” - the hobo being played by Buddy Epson. Opie develops a friendship with Mr. Dave and he leads him down a primrose path. Andy confronts Mr. Dave. When he asks Andy “who’s to say my way isn’t better?” this was Andy’s response:

“The wrong ideas come packaged with so much glitter, it's hard to convince him that other things might be better in the long run and all a parent can do is say, "Wait. Trust me" and try to keep temptation away.”

In many ways, that is what the transfer portal and NIL has become. It is the wrong idea wrapped in glittering, shiny promises that grabs young players attention. For some it works out. As Mr. Dave states in the scene it “keeps clothes on his back and food in his belly”. But for others, the have it now mentality never gives way to thought of “wait. Is this really the best thing for me in the long run?”
🎶The glitter and prizes, and endless compromises…shatter the illusion of integrity🎶
