4* TE Travis Dickson commits to LSU

He is indeed a great one. I wish we had offered him because he was interested. His Mama loves Saban.
I talked to a player on the OS team yesterday at a golf tournament and he was saying that Dickson has got to be far and away the best defensive player in the state. But word has it that LSU plans to play him at Tight End. We were pretty much set at that position.

Any reason why we never went after him??? I know Volger is good but he was rated below him??

Oh well can't get'em all~!~

I believe it's Coach Burns who has watched him practice a few times. Back in the spring.
I don't know why we weren't interested. He's rated higher than any tight end commit we have and any defensive line commit we have.
Two way player and just simply a good football player. Great kid too. Smart.
I honestly think we thought he was an LSU lock. But as of last week it was either LSU or Auburn and he was pretty undecided. Probably chose LSU because of the close proximity to home. And, just because he committed doesn't mean we can't go after him if we indeed choose to.

LSU will probably give him a look at DE just because we graduate a lot of linemen soon..but who knows where he sticks. Looks like he could play either one and be successful.

If Bama would have offered, he would have come to the capstone. My understanding is Chad Lindsay and Travis are very good friends. Their fathers, Duff Lindsay and Dick Dickson, played together at Mississippi State.

I seriously doubt it. He's always been an LSU lock IMHO.

I completely agree Dickson has been an LSU lock for a long while.

Travis Dickson knew all along
Dickson will follow his brother Richard, a senior tight end on the Tigers 2009 team.

“I’ve been talking to my family, and I really want to be at LSU, and I want to be able to focus on my senior season, so I thought it was time. “ Dickson said of his pledge.

A member of the ESPNU 150, ranked the #59 player in the country, Dickson had offers from all across the country. “I considered a lot of schools, but LSU felt right.”

That why Coach Saban gets paid the big bucks. He actually goes after recruits that we have a chance in getting.(Brian Vogler,Harrison Jones,Ethan Farmer just to name a few)

Dick indeed told me that Travis was disappointed that we hadn't offered.
And he seemed to think that Travis would have seriously considered Bama.
He even went as far to say that he didn't won't to play on the same team with his brother(Richard) because they were so competitive with each other.

By the way, Ocean Springs beat Vicksburg 47-6 Friday night and Vicksburg didn't get a first down until the fourth quarter when all the starters, including Dickson were pulled. OS is ranked fourth in the state and we'll beat South Panola for the title. Dickson is dominant at DE.

He may have been considered by us to be an LSU lock..but we made a mistake here. He wasn't. I've known his Dad since 1981. He told me that Travis felt his choices were Oklahoma(too far)...LSU(didn't really want to)..or Auburn(hot after him).

He didn't want to go to Auburn.

And we didn't offer. That simple. Again, his Mom loves Saban. Just never got the chance to meet him.

Travis is better than any tight end prospect or defensive end prospect that we have commitments from. Rated higher than any of them on Rivals or Scout. Check him out.

Win a few, lose a few. I'm not going to argue with the man. He obviously knows what he's doing. But, there is a possibility that even the greatest can screw up from time to time.

Bear Bryant wanted Herschel Walker to play linebacker. Herschel said "No thanks..and went to Georgia".

I just wish we would have offered because I honestly think he would have accepted.

sip

I always enjoy your updates on kids from south Mississippi, but I think the coaching staff just felt better with Brian Vogler and Harrison Jones. I think we'll be fine with those two, in addition to the other TEs will have on the roster in 2010. I wish Travis Dickson the best at LSU, except for a certain game every November.

Yeah, when he plays against us I'll have to transform him into the enemy....lol
