Bama Game Thread: A-Day Game Thread ( ESPN @ 3PM CT)

I have to remind myself that whatever CKD is showing us, he’s also showing our opponents. He’s not gonna tip his hand too much. What stood out to me the most:

1. Offensive line looks a lot more athletic. Good pulls and foot-movement. Snaps are still making my heart stop.

2. Running back room looks lethal. This could be the best group in the country.

3. Receivers had a ton of drops today. That’s got to improve.

4. D-Line was getting embarrassed out there in the first half. The swarm defense looked more like “swarm-and-a-miss” during several plays.

5. can we get Will Reichard out there dressed in disguise?

Anyway, the coaches and players got some good film and we got to see some new faces. I’m not panicking about anything.

My greatest concern after watching that game - the drops. Have to get that fixed or Mahomes couldn't help you.
I know it’s a dead horse, but Alabama has a “Jalen Milroe problem”. Do they decide to play him hoping he has improved, or do they cut their losses and move onto other options? I know what Saban would do. Maybe DeBoer will make waves.

Ok, 1. this is pretty much the same group we have had for years. Would be a little funny if Proctor comes back for a backup role. Not that I see that happening.

2. I’ve been preaching Jam Miller for 2 years, and Richard Young last year. I saw a play last year where he Young had a little wiggle in the hole, not just a downhill runner. Kid is gonna be good.

4. After watch8ng the game in its totality, I don’t think practice has been as physical, and it shows. More arm tackling. Maybe because it’s friendly fire ???

We all knew about Miller, but Young opened some eyes today. Looks like the total package.

Well, not sure you can say that. Today each center had a few bad snaps. Seth had a LOT of bad snaps all by his lonesome.
He didn’t seem to have many issues in 21 or 22. Last year was just weird. Not sure what the deal was. All the reports out of Columbus have said he no longer has any issues. Curious, to be sure.

I watched but not closely cause we had family come visit. I've got it recorded and will watch it next week sometime, but a couple of thoughts:

Format: I didn't hate the format at all. I think it featured more of what we wanted to see: straight offense and defense. Who cares about mock kickoffs and punting in the spring?

Attendance: a good showing for CKD's first spring game. With live TV at home and the Sat. of the Masters and a pretty, spring day...a good day!

Offense: Like it. Like how plays develop faster. Running game will be the cornerstone of our success. Passing game is going to depend on what direction we go with at QB.

Defense: Coach said that were basically vanilla so I'm not worried about it.

QBS: Faster developing plays will possibly help JM. A couple of his better passes looked like good, quick reads. I think they were "first reads" but at least he pulled the trigger faster on those plays than many last year. But, I didn't see the type of throws we know he really needs to be able to make. Were the plays called but he didn't pull the trigger??? IDK. TS is just a more complete QB: whether as a runner or passer he's just more complete. He may not throw the deep pass as well as JM, but I think he's superior in almost every other part of the game. I think he's shown enough to make it a fall competition and maybe even force CKD to play two QBs starting the year.

Getting the eeyores now thinking how the vanilla defense shut down the offense in the second half

disappointed in Milroe for not improving, and Simpson for not taking advantage.

This team will only go as far as the quarterback play takes them.
