Ah, Florida - words fail me.

there was this from a thread about espn on the football forum during the 2020 season. similar points have been made (although maybe not as explicitly) many times over the years on the ns board
FTR, I'm not being pedantic, I was making a specific statement because this was posted as if directed towards some here, though I've not seen anyone here claim systemic racism has never existed in the US.
"Placing here because many republicans claim systemic racism has never existed."

Of course there are those who will argue that it doesn't exist today, but that's a huge difference from suggesting it's never occurred considering the literal changes to the US Constitution to recognize all people.

I'll drop it now, no need to further derail this thread.

i just got curious and searched on it, that is what i found. fwiw, every other instance in the four pages of results was mostly people talking about how it exists/how pervasive it is.

If they vote for anyone who pushes these policies through or says those things then it's directed toward them. Otherwise, no. But I had no one in mind other than republicans in general since they continue to support those who say such things and pass such policies.

Florida effectively bans AP Psychology course over LGBTQ content, College Board says

Florida "effectively banned" Advanced Placement Psychology classes in the state due to the course's content on sexual orientation and gender identity, the College Board said Thursday.

The state's Department of Education informed the College Board that its AP Psychology class is in violation of state law, the higher education nonprofit said in a statement. Florida's Parental Rights in Education act, or what critics have dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" law, restricts the instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity in the state's classrooms.

The College Board added that Florida will allow superintendents to offer the college-level psychology class for high schoolers if they exclude LGBTQ topics.

However, the College Board argued that excluding the lessons — which it describes as teachings on "how sex and gender influence socialization and other aspects of development" — "would censor college-level standards."

It added that lessons regarding sexual orientation and gender identity have been included in AP Psychology since the course was created 30 years ago.

How Florida let a top insurer abandon homeowners in their time of greatest need

While Hurricane Ian was a historic disaster — the most costly to ever hit Florida — industry experts say the state has not adequately prepared for the cost of such calamities, leaving the Raggies and other homeowners without dependable insurance and with little recourse to do anything about it. Despite lawmakers passing a wave of pro-industry reforms last year that they touted would stabilize the industry, two national carriers have pulled back coverage or dropped customers within recent weeks.

“Insurance companies have been given tremendous amount of leeway in Florida,” Birny Birnbaum, the director of the Center for Economic Justice and a former insurance regulator said in an interview. “Light regulation let these smaller companies come in and cherry pick what they want to cover. When there is no hurricane, they can make a tremendous amount of money. When there is one, executives can walk away without much liability and a lot richer.”

Has Desantis given any thought to where he will live after governor term ends and a failed presidential bid? He might not find Florida very welcoming for his career after power base is gone. This guy is an idiot.

daddy ron at it again

Uniforms complete with masks. I hope they suffocated in the heat.

How is it even possible these days that people would worship Hitler? Did they not go to school? Do they not know about the Holocaust? Do they think Hitler was a nice guy because he was a racist?

It's hard to imagine.
