Happy for AJ. Hope he does well for himself and the UA! The best thing he has going for him, IMO, is what's between his two ears. He's always been smart and translates that into making good, quick decisions.

Hope he makes the best of this opportunity and it translates into something even better. If he doesn't prove to be the type of QB that the Bills or another team my desire as a long term starter, I hope he does well enough to show he's capable of staying in the league as a justifiable and serviceable backup. There could be worse things in life than being another Jeff Rutledge.

They wanted to keep him around which is why they tried some accounting screwiness to keep his rights for another year. At worst, he's probably one of the best 2QBs in the NFL. Even if what I imagine will happen to him in Buffalo does indeed happen, I don't think he will be retiring from professional football after he's cut loose from the Bills. He'll get at least one more short term contract, possibly to be a bridge starter again. If he's not hostile to whoever they draft and helps out in the film room, he could become a fashionable bridge QB for any team in the Bills situation down the line. At this point, I think it is fair to say that AJ is never going to be seen as a team's future at QB unless he keeps on getting opportunities to go out there and just never lose his job. That's how Drew Brees ended up being a hall of famer. He was suppose to bridge the Chargers to Phillip Rivers but he was too good for them pull him. Ended up getting injured which ended his tenure in San Diego and led to his career changing move to NOLA.
 
I think that the Vikes are pretty smart, personally. They understand how close they came, and now is the time to strike.

His behavior at Alabama has nothing to do with him not being picked up by the other teams. I think with his lack of playing time hurt him and That's partly on Bengals for that. They had opportunities to put AJ in the game several times and they didn't do that. So, Buffalo and AJ has a huge opportunity and we'll see what they will do with that. I have a feeling AJ will do just fine. If he does well, He will be on another team next year. I don't see AJ sticking around for 2nd year, especially when they're drafting a QB in the draft and wants the new QB to start playing.

One thing I can say for Daboll is that he learned a lot when he was in Alabama, and I hope he is a better playcaller at Buffalo. He has history of making QB looks good.

AJ’s main goal in this is get quality PT and improve his perception to the league. Again he is probably the next Fitz or Flynn of the league.

Aside from Tua, who are you referring to? Because other than Alabama, Daboll has been considered a failure at the other 3 coordinator jobs he was at. Yeah he was great as the TE coach for the Pats, and had Farve for one year at the Jets when he was QB coach, but we are talking about Brady and Farve who both were legends already without his help. And we are talking about Gronk who probably is the most uncoverable man on the planet just because of his height, speed, catching, and jumping ability.

I’m still kinda wondering where I would rank Daboll in the SEC amongst play callers last year. I think he was pretty close to bottom of the top to middle of the pack personally behind Auburn, UGA, Missouri, and MSU’s coordinators.

He probably falls into something AJ is more accustomed to, but I think it’s kinda hard not to say , “ run-run- pass- PA pass-run-run-pass” when you got a great rb like McCoy. So Daboll could be decent for AJ’s health and film time. So who knows if Daboll finally becomes a decent OC in the NFL.

We've seen what his offense can do with a real good QBs at Alabama. We know his offense can flourish with the right qb. Peterman won't get the job done, and If they draft a QB that can make aggressive throws, (Rose, Darnold) they can't go wrong with McCarron.

All of the qbs I listed weren't very good qb except for Favre.

This and his leadership qualities. Guys gravitate to leaders and I feel AJ will win the team over and be the starter. The Bills were a play-off team so this is a good gig for AJ. He will do a good job IMO.

I Don’t buy it. You can’t blame everything on a qb. Heck Bortles was 11th overall in passing last year, and you can’t tell me he is better than 21 other qbs in the league. A good coordinator can put a bad qb in good situations to succeed.

If he was this good to great offensive mind then he would’ve at least have something closer than 20th for total offense. He has lived behind Belichick and CNS his whole career and just about everytime he has ventured outside from under their wing he is mediocre to below average.

I guarantee that McDermott is going to tell him that if he doesn’t run da ball then he will RUN DABOLL Out of Buffalo.
 
The incentive package pays $1 million is he takes 60 percent of the snaps this year, and another $1 million if he takes 75 percent of the snaps. If McCarron takes 75 percent of the snaps, his base for 2019 also escalates by $2.5 million.

He also can get $1 million for taking 60 percent of the snaps in 2019, and another $1 million for taking 75 percent of the snaps in 2019. If he takes 75 percent of the snaps in 2019 but fails to do so in 2018, he’ll get the $2.5 million escalator for 2019 as an incentive instead.

Pretty good bet that if they're not in great playoff position by mid-season, bet on him being benched after the 8th game in favor of whoever they draft with their high first round pick next month. I'd be surprised if he even gets to the 60% snaps number if they're not in playoff contention.

Gray is a realist. He may go a tad bit in the other direction sometimes but.....sometimes that's the experience of age, too.

Can't use Bortles.... he got the Jags to the playoff.

My point was simple: Daboll offense can do well with a decent QB.
