AJ or Sims ?

It was Fannuzi, Greg and Star......Greg being the upperclassman of the two.

The majority opinion of the board on July 10th 2008 was that Star Jackson would inevitable surpass both Greg and Fannuzi. I read a spring practice report I believe by JessN that Sophomore GMAC was being outplayed by Redshirt Frosh Fannuzi, that he had a much better arm, and that Greg was struggling.

This is a direct quote from someone that I found through the channels. This was the majority opinion from what I remember. Then the rumors of Greg leaving started shortly after spring practice, and then that he was staying because of his girlfriend.

Greg staying showed a lot of people that it's never over until the fat lady sings.

Wilson started of course, and Greg earned second string. The next year and 1/2 Fannuzi and Star both transferred and the rest is history.
You're absolutely right because Greg publicly denied the rumors he was leaving.

I think that was in response more to Star than to Fanuzzi. I was just talking about Fanuzzi.

This is in the past and I was just making a point that anything can happen, but if you want I can find you threads from Spring practice 2008 where it was a near consensus on 1. Star 2. Fannuzi and 3. Greg.

I'll go ahead and do it. I'll enter into evidence this thread from 2008

I can't respond anymore after this. But, that link shows more people talking about Star Jackson and AJ McCarron than Fanuzzi. There might be one poster in four pages that talked more about Fanuzzi than McElroy as a potential starter.
I'm sure there are some people out there that were higher on Fanuzzi than McElroy. There are posts, I'm sure. I just think that was a minority opinion. When Star signed, he was by far the "hot" backup QB. Some thought GMac would transfer because they thought Star would claim the job. When McCarron looked to sign, the transfer talk got louder.
There. Talk amongst yourselves.

Star was going to redshirt and A.J was not even on the team, they both were not going to be in play the following season. The battle was for second string, and it was between Greg and Fannuzi, and the majority of reports I read listed Fannuzi looking better that spring, including the report from JessN. Fannuzi at this point in time could have given Greg his first lapping by an underclassman, and that was the reason for the transfer rumors that summer imo. No other QB was more of a threat to Greg than NF.

Greg and his intelligence adapted well to McElwain and I give him the credit for seeing some raw potential. Greg worked hard the entire year and was a totally different player when he threw the TD in the Auburn game as compared to that spring.

It seemed like there was room for one of the two, and Greg finally won out. But that spring didn't indicate what was to become. It told a story of a strong younger quarterback outplaying an out of his league weak armed nerd. Fortunately for us, GMAC is not a quitter and worked his arse off. The rest is history.

I hope there is room for both A.J and Sims. I hope both players remain cognizant of Greg's path to glory, it was not a straight slope to the top.

PREVIEW: Alabama Crimson Tide: Team Overview [by JessN]

We haven't a clue what will happen. Coach Saban is always one up on us :)
He held back the QB's in the spring game for a reason IMO, and we will see the results in the fall. He wants them to seperate at a later date. Other coaches can use this as poison, but coach Saban will turn it into a plus for the team, the players and us fans.

I guess it's far enough after for this, but CJM actually saw more potential in Greg than CNS did. In fact, CJM spent time with Greg that CNS thought would have been better spent on Star. However, CNS is basically a defensive coach and no one is perfect...

Now let's guess whose decision it was to keep B. Sims at QB. What type of plays will he run? I really want to see both Sims having the same #, since they are not likely to show up on the field at the same time. But a Sims-Sims-Sims combination would be fun to watch when they confuse the oponents..
